1984 and I made a trip to the Redmire with my dear friend Pete, we were down for a week and when we met Ken he told us it wasn’t fishing well. I was in Keffords and Pete the stumps, the most amazing magical place. My very first carp could have been 1lbs or 100lbs. Pete insisted I have a photo on the dam wall, in those days the punt was right behind me, what magical times. by @robinmdix

What a great honour in 2016, when we got invited to Ireland to carry out what was only their second talk on carp fishing. It was a great weekend hosted by a good friend of ours Vinny Byrne, a fellow BCSG member. Vinny showed us where he had his first pint of Guinness and we took him out to celebrate with a slap up curry, all in the company of another mate little Kev Ellis, who took time off his big fish adventures to attend. Poor old Pete his slide show was on disc and try as we might his wouldn’t play. That didn’t stand in his way and he did an impromptu question and answer session. Fantastic memories. Our friendship started with a guy saying “you ever seen a Carp, nipper”, then showing me a 10lbs Mirror he had caught. A long lasting friendship that will stay with me forever. by @robinmdix

Pete and I loved our winter fishing mostly we had the lakes to ourselves. We discovered that the Yateley match lake was a far more productive venue when the frost was on the ground. We had some frustrating trips and spoke to Rod looking for his input. We had both been shown the hair rig via different routes, and this particular night produced, my second bite on it, and first fish landed. The fish in question was transferred at a later date and became known as the Dustbin. We had some adventures over the years, but I will always remember those winter days with special fondness. by @robinmdix
