Premiering a film at both MIFF and Sydney Film Festival was a life dream that came true -and screening it at IMAX- mind blown!🤯 . Years of work, and energy and matter (see the film to get it!) went into Phenomena, and I’m so proud to share it with the world alongside Josef Gatti. Sometimes you just have to back yourself and go for it, and when you believe in something enough, you can pull it off. But what a privilege it is to make something truly unique and special, and to do with awesome people. Having the special people in my life come and see it was also so great. This year has been such a significant personal challenge, but launching Phenomena was a reminder of how awesome my friends and family are. So here’s to the wonderous nature we’re part of, our connection to the universe, to curiosity and understanding, and to the beauty that we can see all around us if we just look. And to whatever is next for Phenomena, as long as lots of people get to see it!

Playing this and next weekend at @dokufest in Prizren, Kosovo! I’ve heard such amazing things about this festival, I wish we could be there for these late screenings. European friends if you’re in the neighbourhood, go check it out!

Excited to be bringing Phenomena to my hometown @adlfilmfest

So much of this film was crafted in Dad’s shed, in the eastern suburbs where I grew up. Many of the nature scenes were filmed in rural SA as well. Shoutout to @arkaroolaofficial one of the most beautiful and remote places I’ve ever visited.

I’ll be there for a special Q&A with Dad too!

Beyond excited to bring Phenomena to MIFF @melbfilmfest - a festival I’ve been attending for years as a wide-eyed, budding filmmaker.

It’s even more special to be playing at two venues that I’ve seen some of my favourite films & shows, kicking off at The Forum @forummelbourne and finishing up at IMAX Melbourne @imax.melbourne 🪐✨ move over, @theodysseymovie !

My favourite of the new experiments, can’t wait for you to see this one!

Sometimes you make some good shit but it ends up on the cutting room floor.

Shoutout to Teon who came in on drums for a day, and Nij who has read every version of this film’s script since 2018.

Niraj Lal - Co-Producer
Teon Catalano - Special Thanks (lol) @teon14

I don’t know why Ned is cutting tomatoes on the floor. Budget might have been tight that day.

Ned Johnstone - Camera Assistant @nedjohnstone

Thanks Shu for nursing and co-parenting the slime mould with me. Tbh it was really all you

What a magical week screening at @afo_olomouc, a full circle moment made complete by winning the audience award and best science communication, international competition ✨

Sharing the magic of the universe with audiences is why this film exists and I’m so proud to have this recognised by both the audience and jury at AFO. A truly special festival and a week I’ll never forget!!

As always a huge thank you to our partners @sandboxfilms @screenaustralia @wearevicscreen

And a very special shoutout to Sonya Pemberton for making the introduction to both @ondrakazik and @ivana.for on a very serendipitous day!
