This is a limited (edition of 50) handmade book; from drawing to printing, to stitching, gluing, and binding, to finishing – every stage this book has been handmade, including a screen-printed cover. It is 16 pages plus endpapers, the size is approximately 10x13.5cm, and each is signed and editioned as 1 of the 50.

– £25 plus £4.50 P&P. There's a link in my profile, or DM me for details.

This edition comes in 3 different coloured covers: red, orange, and a warm buff colour. If you have a preference, it’s first come first pick, and there are around 16 of each colour.

This is the introduction to the book: “The coloured illustrations in this book have been made specifically for the RISO printing process, where each colour is printed separately, using specific colours, and limited to those available. Achieved, by drawing, from life, separate layers for each colour using the grey tones, and qualities of graphite pencils, and blocking out areas with ink. Therefore, the completed coloured artworks only exist here in this book, they are not reproductions of colored artwork.”

My inspiration for the printing of this book comes from my interest in autolithography printing, by artists working with the printer W S Cowells (which I co-curated an exhibition of, at the end of last year). Cowell’s worked with many artists, to help them understand the process of drawing separate layers for the printing of separate colours to produce final artworks, and I caught the printing bug, and taught myself.

I was up EARLY this morning, before sunrise, to catch the dawn chorus! I was also treated to an unexpected guest! Keep listening and watching, and you’ll hear and see the guest! Who will it be?

What’s the dawn chorus you ask!

It’s when the birds save their best singing for first light, because at dawn, it’s too dark to feed, so this is an excellent time for singing. They do this to state their territory and show how fit they are, and without missing breakfast time!

Plus, the still, cool air lets sound travel further, and the darkness lets the birds sing from high perches with less risk from predators! It certainly makes a great way to start the day.

The chorus is loudest in spring, peaking in late April and early May in the UK, and the sweet spot is around 30 minutes either side of sunrise.

What a morning! Well worth the early alarm!

The leaves are turning beautiful colours, and creating the best of patterned carpets (all those leaves will give valuable goodness back to the earth too). The pumpkins are plump and ripe… and I’ll hand over to my publisher @scallywagpress to say the rest…

Back in May, the brilliant Jen Noonan @lewes.library (Delaware, USA) asked me if they could use my book “We Found a Seed” for a Story Walk in their summer programming – I saw what they do, and immediately said yes! They partner with ‘Lewes in Bloom’ @lewesinbloomde and create a wonderfully different, interactive reading experience in their ‘Children’s Learning Garden’, and I love it!

This is a big shout-out to the librarians @lewes.library, you are amazing!!! Thanks again for including one of my ‘In The Garden’ books, and good luck with future programming.

Thanks to @scallywagpress for giving permission and support in making this happen!

Went to a fab talk today all about the lithographic printers Cowells of Ipswich. Brilliantly written and delivered by @robramsden_illustrator and Nigel Ball highlighting the vital role Cowells played in the development of such iconic illustrated children’s books as Orlando the Marmalade Cat and Puffin Picture Books. It was fascinating. To think that I went to art school in Ipswich and never knew then about it’s connection to the book art that would later inspire me. by @robramsden_illustrator

I sometimes draw from other artists work, not to copy, or produce final artworks, but to follow their line and structure, to discover something about their work, and mine. It’s really a bit of fun too, to do in between drawing more purposeful story based characters. These are after Francisco Goya, who’s a fascinating artist who reinvented what they did much later in life. I choose to post these because the first drawing reminded me of wind outside, it’s quite calm here in Suffolk, be careful over in the west. by @robramsden_illustrator

It’s nearly time for Halloween, and it’s Competition Time! So, between now and Halloween I’m excited to announce that there will be 3 competitions, each to win the ‘We Planted A Pumpkin’ audio book through the lovely people at @Librofm

The first competition, a perfect half-term activity, is to “Draw yourself as a pumpkin”. Then just post your drawing onto your stories or timeline, and tag @librofm @scallywagpress and @robramsden_Illustrator

Look out for the next competition later this week, too! You’ll only need to enter one of the competitions to be in with a chance to win, but you can enter all three competitions for THREE chances to win!

All 3 competitions will close at 7pm on Halloween, when 3 lucky winners will be announced!

We Planted a Pumpkin is part of my In The Garden series published by @Scallywagpress, and @audioagencyuk for the audio books, and @lismio_audiobooks
