I Heard a Bird is the final book in the 'In the Garden' series, which is a series introducing young children to the natural world.

In this book, a little girl hears a bird, which is frightened away. She continues to look for the bird and encounters a variety of different insects and animals.

It's a book about mindfulness and learning to enjoy the sounds, and small details in nature.

This book is excellent at prompting children to think a little more about what is around them in the garden.

@scallywagpress have fantastic information and activity sheets for a lot of their books. For I Heard a Bird, you can download sound lotto to play with your little ones using the sounds in the book.

There's also a great information sheet that has some lovely ideas on how to use the book to facilitate more learning outside.

My toddlers favourite part was looking for all the ladybugs/ants/snails in the illustrations.

We have seen heaps of ladybirds lately, anyone else?

Went to a fab talk today all about the lithographic printers Cowells of Ipswich. Brilliantly written and delivered by @robramsden_illustrator and Nigel Ball highlighting the vital role Cowells played in the development of such iconic illustrated children’s books as Orlando the Marmalade Cat and Puffin Picture Books. It was fascinating. To think that I went to art school in Ipswich and never knew then about it’s connection to the book art that would later inspire me.
