On a cold February day last year, I met @robyn.gamston in an empty office block in Elephant and Castle.

We spoke about the expectations that still surround women - to be quiet, agreeable, beautiful. Not eccentric. Not unpredictable. Never too much. I wanted to see what happens if we let things unravel a bit, and we spoke about capturing the quiet tension of psychological unravelling within spaces designed to contain.

I asked Robyn to describe how the day felt to her too so her words below ✨

We shot this on Super 8 in an abandoned office on the 18th floor. The city was misty and blurred below us. I felt separate from everything, like we had stepped into another reality. We explored odd movement and unexpected moments. We slipped between characters, speeds, and textures, and got lost in the play. The camera caught moments as they happened, and that honesty felt important.

Thank you to @clementine_editing for turning very little footage into a beautiful edit that completely captures what we were trying to say, and for your gorgeous sound design that draws us into this world of oddity and play. Thank you to @the_koppel_project for the space, and to @aoifepk for styling Robyn in the most fabulous @eggtrading 🥚 by @robyn.gamston

I’m excited to be performing my new solo work, Tune In!@ Sadler’s Wells East Dance Floor on 16th July! Deets to follow soon ⭐️

📻 Soundtrack created with @joel_reynolds_art_photography

Tune In! explores the constant noise of modern life. Through shifting radio stations, the work navigates urgency, distraction, control, and the search for moments of stillness amongst the static ⚡️⚡️⚡️
