Happy Down Syndrome Awareness Month, everyone! There is so much to celebrate and so much work to be done! While we have made great strides over the past fifty years, there are still so many misconceptions about Down syndrome. There are still so many biases based on old ideas. At RODS Heroes, we make it our mission to uncover and celebrate the superpowers of Down syndrome year round! We do that through sharing stories like the ones highlighted in this reel, the ones we share on our platforms on social media (@humansofdownsyndrome and on YouTube - check it out - link in Bio), and by advocating for orphans with Down syndrome around the globe. We also want to foster community for anyone in need of it. We are doing this year round, so you can bet we’ll be doing it in October, too! Happy, Happy Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Everyone! Today is World Down Syndrome Day! It is a day to celebrate individuals with Down syndrome, but also an opportunity to learn from them. People with Down syndrome show up in the world with joy, honesty, and a kind of love that most of us are still trying to figure out.

They include everyone. They celebrate the little
things. They lead with their hearts. So today, we invite you to do more than just show support. We invite you to live like them.

Here are a few simple ways to celebrate:
💛Wear crazy or mismatched socks A small but powerful way to start conversations and show your support.
💙Choose joy on purpose! Find something to celebrate today, no matter how small.
💛Include someone Sit next to someone new. Invite someone in. Make someone feel seen.
💙Lead with kindness
Smile more. Give a compliment. Offer a hug.
💛Celebrate others out loud! Cheer people on. Be their biggest fan.
💙Share the message Post your socks, your moments, your why. Help spread awareness!

“The unconditional love when he looked at me…I never really experienced that before. He looks so deep in my eyes, it was almost like he was telling me, ‘hey, mom everything’s going to be ok.’ I didn’t realize at that time that really needed that but he was giving that to me every single day. It was just a beautiful bond of a mom, son relationship”

I’m 12 yrs old!!! My birthday is extra special because I share it with my awesome Papa. My birthday was the best….birthday FaceTime with my Chicago family, birthday calls and had fun at my family birthday party. Mommy surprised me with my favorite cupcakes and Nana made Papa’s favorite blueberry pie. After my sissy and I stayed up late playing with my birthday presents!
