I used to take moments like this for granted. Since February, I’ve spent countless days praying and asking God for more time—and thankfully, that has been His will.

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy.

There were moments this year when I thought I might have to learn how to live without you. Moments when I realized there are still so many memories left for us to make together.

This journey has brought our family closer than we’ve ever been. While these have been some of the hardest days of your life, watching you go through them and being unable to take away your pain has made them some of the hardest days of mine. But through it all, God has had a plan.

This photo is proof of that plan.

We’re fighting this together, and even though there are still more rounds ahead, we are winning because we are facing them together. You will never have to face anything alone, Daddy.

I’m so grateful that I still have you. Happy Father’s Day. I can’t wait to get you back out on the golf course where you belong.

Love you always. ā¤ļø taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @rochelle_squire

šŸ’Happy Mother’s Day to those of us who celebrate the mothers in our lives with flowers, calls, and love — while quietly dreaming of becoming one ourselves.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women holding eggs, embryos, hope, prayers, and unanswered questions. To the women who have tried, will try, and continue trying to become the mothers their hearts long to be.

To the ā€œfuntiesā€ loving on everyone else’s little ones while sometimes crying in the dark, wondering if motherhood will ever happen for us too.

Happy Mother’s Day to those of us who feel a jolt when someone says ā€œHappy Mother’s Dayā€ because of our age — but still hesitate to accept it because we don’t yet have children in our arms. Even though motherhood already lives so deeply in our hearts.

We’ve applied for the role. We’re just waiting for our turn.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who can’t post a photo of ā€œwho made me a mom,ā€ but wish they could. To the women investing financially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually into the possibility of one day hearing someone call them ā€œMom.ā€

This day is for us too. šŸ¤ #fertility #eggfreezing #mothersday #ivfgotthis #ivf by @rochelle_squire

41 ā„ļø
I’m really in my 40s now.

If I’m honest, this week has come with tears as I step into this next year of life. Still, as my dad would say, I’m grateful to be seen and not viewed. I’ve learned so much from the family who helped get me here and who continue to stand with me. I come from a good Black family—and I don’t say that enough.

In these 41 years, I’ve accomplished things that wouldn’t have been possible without the seeds planted by my ancestors. I’m humbled to say I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur for four years now. This past year tested that decision more than any other. Contracts slowed, doubt crept in, and I truly thought I had failed.

What I couldn’t see at the time was God creating space.

Space to finally launch With Ease—a vision He placed on my heart ten years ago. Walking into this feels purpose-driven and ordered. Had my consulting work remained as heavy as before, there would’ve been no room to nurture this gift. Now I understand where I was meant to lean in.

What I’m most proud of today is the woman I’m becoming. Through loss, pain, disappointment, and grief, I’ve continued to choose growth, reflection, and healing. I own my truth and my missteps. I choose accountability over blame.

As 40 closed, I shed a lot—people, opportunities, expectations. I learned that before growth, there must be pruning.

So here’s to 41.
A new year. A new chapter.
An evolved, grown-ass woman who’s only getting better with time.

And honestly… I think I keep getting finer.šŸ·

Thee Parentals.
Married 42 years.

I wouldn’t be here without them—literally and figuratively. And let’s be honest, they probably got way more than they bargained for with me. I was sweet, soft, and innocent… until I became a full-on teen terror. Now, here I am on the road to 41, and I couldn’t be more thankful that God sent these two to be my parents.

They sacrificed more than I’ll ever fully understand. At one point in my childhood, my parents changed zip codes—and schools—continuously to keep me safe and ensure I was challenged academically and surrounded by the best teachers.

We moved from the city of Flint to Flint Township, where we were one of only two Black families on our street. That neighborhood gave me so much. I celebrated Hanukkah with the neighbors across the street and learned about Buddhism at playdates around the corner. My parents made that move not just to protect me, but to prepare me for the world—the real world.

They exposed me to everything: Space Camp, engineering camps, and two weeks in Spain during high school. The travel bug bit early, and I’ve been chasing the world ever since. My mom was the stickler about grades—excellence was the only option. My dad is the reason I played ball: in-season leagues, AAU, Hoop It Up, CANUSA (iykyk), a half-court in the backyard, and a trainer every Saturday after Friday night games. As a two guard, my shot had to be money—always.

I’ve always wanted to please my parents, not out of fear, but out of respect and honor. I know the sacrifices they made—working overtime, going without, so I could have more. And honestly, I still don’t know how they made it to everything: dance recitals, band concerts, basketball games, cheer competitions, step shows, speech contests, and everything in between. Every time I looked up, they were there. Present.

As I move into this next chapter, I ask God to align me with a partner who cherishes the sanctity of marriage for a lifetime, modeled so beautifully by my parents. And if God entrusts me with children, I pray to lead them with the same selfless love, sacrifice, and devotion poured into me.

Thank you, Mom and Dad, for being—and continuing to be—present. šŸ¤ by @rochelle_squire

Grandma’s Hands.

I’m not even sure where to begin, but anyone who knows me knows this: my Maw-Maw is my forever girl. From the moment I was born, she called me her ā€œsmart cookie,ā€ instilling pride in my intellect before I even understood what that meant. She always reminded me that it doesn’t matter how pretty people think you are—if you’re not a good person on the inside, none of it matters.

I have so many memories with her, and I’m so thankful we’re still making them. She’s the reason any man will have a hard time gifting me anything—about 70% of my David Yurman collection came from her. Since I was little, we’ve been shopping from sunup to sundown, truly believing in ā€œshop ā€˜til you drop.ā€ But don’t get it twisted—this is also the same woman who, the moment I started working, set up a Roth for me, contributed to it, and made sure I did too.

I used to go to work with her when she was a professor and help grade her students’ tests. I watched her command her classroom, but even more, I witnessed the love and connection she had with her students—something I know shaped me deeply as an educator. She paved the way for me in so many ways, some I recognize and others I’m still uncovering… including my road to AKAland.

In 2019, my grandmother and I traveled to Israel together, a trip I’ll forever be grateful for—especially because let’s be clear, if I hadn’t gone, she still would have. She just returned from Greece a few months ago for her 87th birthday (hence the dress pic in the last slide).

I only pray to become who she paved the way for me to be. My grandmother’s strength is unmatched. She has buried both of her sons. Her parents are gone. All but one of her siblings are gone. And yet—she still stands, with only minor complaints about a sore shoulder or an aching hip.

She is my everything. šŸ¤ And yes, I am tagging her because she is on the gramšŸ™ƒšŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø @scpfashionista

East St. Louis.
My great-grandparents — my Nanny (standing on the left) and my Grandpa (standing in the middle).

As I count down to my birthday, I want to honor the people who helped create me. I am beyond thankful that my great-grandparents, including my Paw-Paw (Nanny’s second husband), were such a big part of the village that raised me.

Nanny and Paw-Paw took me to school every day. Nanny taught me how to read and was the room mom at every school I attended—until I got ā€œtoo coolā€ for her to be there. Paw-Paw played Super Nintendo with me (and sometimes let me win), took me to Toys ā€œRā€ Us after school, and bought me yet another Troll to add to my collection.

Grandpa was the one I called when I needed my grandmother to really listen to me. He was the final decision-maker—the end-all, be-all. He even convinced everyone that I should be allowed to have a pet hamster, made my grandmother go pick it up, and bring it to me… even though my parents weren’t on board. Needless to say, I had a hamster.

I didn’t realize it then, but I was so blessed to be raised by and with my great-grandparents. I miss them deeply. Their love for me was unconditional—even when I was in trouble. When I was suspended from school in high school, I stayed with Grandpa. After a stern talk, it was all love. I will never forget that.

Grandpa passed while I was still in high school, but not before making sure I had the homecoming dress I wanted. Paw-Paw passed during my junior year of college. And Nanny got to see me graduate from both Spelman and the University of Illinois.

The road to 41 wouldn’t be the same without them. I am forever grateful. šŸ¤ by @rochelle_squire

If you only knew the girl behind the glassesā€¦šŸ•¶ļø

I’m probably a lot weirder than you think — and honestly, I’ve learned to embrace both my inner and outer weirdo.

I travel a lot for work, mostly because my intellect seems to be valued more everywhere except the place I live.

I’m more of an inside girl than an outside one, though the algorithm loves to hype me up whenever I pop out.

My diet screams ā€œsuburban momā€ — dairy-free, gluten-free, pescatarian — which also means I’m constantly battling low protein. My abs are made in the kitchen…but really it’s because my stomach has a full-time attitude problem.

I spend a lot of time at home, bundled in the electric blanket my mom bought me because my iron is low, too.

I talk to my therapist twice a week sometimes, because life be life-ing.

I push myself to get out of the house by going to my favorite coffee shop (shoutout to @stnoircafe ) just to sit around people. Being an entrepreneur is beautiful, but it can be extremely lonely.

I dream about my next chapter, even though sometimes the pages get wet from the tears of fear — fear that the page might never turn.

So the next time you see a girl in glasses, don’t assume she’s wearing them because it looks cool.
Maybe she’s just hiding in plain sight.šŸ•¶ļø taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @rochelle_squire
