SPELMAN + MOREHOUSE HOMECOMING — I already miss you!! Class of ‘06 celebrated 20 years . . . 20 yearsss?! What do you meannnn 😅 Even though Hurricane Issa Rae threw us all for a loop (and had me flying back to Jersey while y’all were tailgating 😭💔), I still had the best time. Shout out to all the homecoming planners, figuring out how to pivot - y’all did that! 👏🏾 I currently sound like DMX and my Fitbit wondering what the hell I’ve been on, so it was all a success. What began as an idea became a sold-out gathering of people willing to come together around story, culture, legacy, and possibility. Thank you for making Stories by the Sea a success! There is something profoundly moving about watching something you have imagined and worked toward become real. It is even more impactful watching others embrace it. I am forever grateful to everyone who joined us, supported us, shared their stories, and helped make the experience what it became. Some moments remind you why you do the work. This was one of them.

Also, thank you to @mvaaff for giving us the opportunity to lead a discussion on the importance of Black storytelling.

It was wonderful to experience summer on the Vineyard again. So many memories were made and relationships developed. Until next time...🌊 🩵

God is NEVER behind and neither are you. 💕

This has been one of the absolute busiest and booked years in business for @k.allen.consulting , and to top off the summer, setting aside even more time as a Founder to unplug, rest, play, relax, and chill on soil our ancestors went to do the same was the best way to prepare to close our summer season. My regular rhythms throughout each month of rest are life-giving for me, and the longer set-aside times like this are even more of a gift I give to myself.

Sometimes even at this point in business & in life though, I have moments where I feel behind. 🫶🏾

Then, God reminds me of my full life - from being a kid who once got Christmas gifts from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree a few years when it was hard for my folks to make ends meet to me growing up and gifting them with a home 🏡 that my momma shared “people like us don’t live in”. 🥹 By like us, she meant being a woman with only a high school diploma now becoming a homeowner of a 2 story, 4 bd, 4 bath home in a neighborhood Black folks were once not allowed to walk down the street of. 🙏🏾

This past week I was #OutOfOffice on Martha’s Vineyard. It was absolutely nourishing to my nervous system (because there’s something so beautiful and calming about being in community/straight family reunion style and also being on sacred ancestral ground) and was good for my soul. I have always and will always love everything about our people, our culture, our history, and our joy. I will always love everything about nature, peace, serenity, and spaces that ground you…and I also loved using this year’s trip to MV as a girlfriend’s trip for my sis @lakeisharobichaux and I to catch up and spend QT together. Last year, Kenny and I used it for couples time, and loved every minute. 🍃

Overall, returning to MV for another summer, God reminded me, “You are EXACTLY where I want you to be.” 💯 …and for that, I thank Him. 🙏🏾

A week by the sea has a way of shifting your perspective.

I returned from Martha’s Vineyard with a deep sense of gratitude. Stories by the Sea was a sold-out success, old friendships were renewed, new ones began, and the island itself offered moments to slow down and take notice.

I climbed to the top of the lighthouse and looked outward. At night, beneath an extraordinarily clear sky, I looked upward. And somewhere between the sea and the stars, I discovered Celestial Patchouli by Sana Jardin, a fragrance grounded in orris, patchouli, woods, and spice that seemed especially fitting for the week.

This week’s Scent of Sunday reflects on what we discover when we change our vantage point, and the things we bring home that never quite make it into our suitcases.

I had a college professor once say it’s “MOREhouse, not less house for a reason”. Celebrating 20 year college reunion with my ‘06 #SpelHouse fam was a beautiful reminder of the MORE things we have to be grateful for and celebrate. MORE life, MORE love, MORE excellence, MORE growth, MORE views of the world, MORE bonds, MORE money (let’s keep the fundraising going, bc the “revolution must be financed” ), MORE brotherhood as we welcomed our largest graduating class of nearly 580 #Morehouse Men 👑to the family and MORE Black joy! And s/o to my #Spelman sisters who have never looked lovelier in their white dresses and black shoes with their full reunion glow on display 👑💐. I think back to last week and remain full, but with the reminder that there’s still MORE to do ✊🏾. Keep growing into those crowns brothers and cheers to the next 20, we’ll be Golden tigers before we know it. @morehouse1867 #hbcu
