🎃 Willa’s Monster Muddle
by Fabi Santiago

✨ What happens when a little girl dressed as a witch accidentally ends up at a real monster party? Plenty of hilarious chaos, that’s what!

🧙‍♀️ Willa and her mum are heading to a fancy-dress birthday party dressed as witches. But after a mix-up involving some actual witches, Willa finds herself at a haunted house filled with skeletons, vampires, ghosts and all sorts of spooky creatures!

😂 The brilliant twist is that Willa doesn’t realise anything is unusual. Convinced that everyone is simply wearing very impressive costumes, she happily chats to monsters, plays games and generally causes mayhem wherever she goes! She manages to unintentionally turn the whole party upside down. My little bookworm thought it was absolutely hilarious and especially loved the mummy getting flushed down the toilet 🫣😂

💛 Willa is such a lovable character. Her optimism, kindness and complete lack of fear shine through and make for some wonderfully funny moments. I really loved that she saw friendship everywhere she looked.

🎨 Fabi Santiago’s illustrations are just fantastic. Bold, vibrant and packed with personality, every page bursts with energy and humour. Printed in the limited palette of just five colours creates a wonderfully striking look that feels both spooky and playful at the same time.

👻 Although filled with skeletons, witches and other creepy creatures, this is very much a gentle, funny story rather than a scary one, making it a great choice for little readers who enjoy a touch of spooky fun without any frights.

📚 Full of mistaken identities, lots of giggles and eye-catching illustrations, Willa’s Monster Muddle is a wonderfully entertaining picture book that celebrates kindness, confidence and seeing the best in everyone.

💭 Which monster would you most like to meet at a party? 🎃

🦉 Night Night, Otto

✨ This delightful bedtime story had us both smiling from beginning to end. Full of warmth, humour and a wonderfully lovable main character!

🌙Nestling in for bedtime stories with the Bird family is pure bliss for Otto - he does love a good book. But settling down to sleep? That’s another story!

🦉 What follows is a funny and heartwarming tale as Mama and Papa Bird try everything they can think of to help Otto drift off. Meanwhile, young readers will quickly spot what the grown-ups seem to be missing - Otto is an owl, and owls are supposed to be awake at night!

😂 My little bookworm thought Otto was absolutely hilarious and loved pointing out why none of the Bird family’s bedtime solutions were working! We both giggled our way through the story, and I have to admit it felt a little too relatable at times – does anyone else have a child who seems determined to stay awake long after bedtime? 🤣

🎨 Lo Cole’s illustrations are bold, striking and full of personality. The limited colour palette creates a beautiful night-time atmosphere, while Otto’s bright eyes and fluffy feathers make him absolutely adorable. Every page feels playful, inviting and packed with character.

📚 Funny, clever and wonderfully reassuring, this is a brilliant bedtime story with plenty of laughs along the way. As a former teacher, I can also see it being a fantastic starting point for exploring nocturnal animals with younger children in the classroom too.

Thank you @rocketbirdbooks for our advance copy - It’s out on September 10th so there’s still time to pre-order this one!

💭 Do you have a favourite story about nocturnal animals?

An ant figuring out what she really wants to do? I feel seen. 🐜

Ant Life follows Anita as she tries out different jobs in the colony, wondering what she actually wants to do with her life.

As someone who occasionally dreams of abandoning the corporate grind and moving to a farm, I found her dilemma surprisingly relatable. 😂

Jas has his own way of enjoying the story - pointing to the ants, following the sound, and taking in the colourful illustrations as we go through the pages together.

A lovely gift from @rocketbirdbooks .

At first glance, this feels like a familiar bedtime story. Mama and Papa Bird settle their little ones down with soothing bedtime tales and one by one the chicks drift off to sleep… except Otto. He’s wide awake while everyone else is snoozing! Why won’t Otto fall asleep?!
Well the surprising twist and spoiler alert… Otto isn’t just another little bird at all… he’s an owl who has somehow ended up in the wrong nest! Suddenly his night time energy makes perfect sense!

With bold, eye-catching illustrations and a gentle, reassuring story, this is a wonderful bedtime read for young children. Best of all, Otto is reunited with his real mum and dad at the end. A charming story that’s perfect for winding down before bed… especially for those little night owls! Perfect for age 3+.
