Gonna be the first to wish you… HAPPY 26th BIRTHDAY EM! Happiness, good health, success… all sure to continue strongly, as you make your own special way through life, there in Auckland. Everyone loves Em! Always a joy to be with.. smiling, giggling, laughing out loud, kind and caring, a wonderful soul. So proud of you xx

It was Paul Simon’s birthday a couple of days ago, so I’m going to quote one of his very special lyrics, to @emilyjpdunn from Dadda G-Fry

I believe the light that shines on you
Wll shine on you forever (forever)
I'm gonna watch you shine, gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign, so you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father loved his daughter

Mu 🐶 1 Sept 2014 - 1 Aug 2026. Very sadly, my little boy has gone to the big sleep, taken away by the doggy angels. Mu, you gave me so much joy in my life. You will always be a part of me and I will always cherish so many happy memories of the life we shared, through your 12 beautiful years on this planet. Tears of love, happiness and loss…. I will hugely miss your adorable, funny ways and companionship. 😪 Sleep well and rest in peace, little one. 🐶💟🕊️ taken in Napier, New Zealand by @rockstuffrecords

Happy Birthday, Iris… you amazingly talented young woman! May all your life dreams continue to come true on your California adventures. Time to celebrate your 28th trip around the sun! (Rock musicians are very pleased if they get to do that). Seems like a hundred years since I saw you last @irisgabriellagrace ~ miss you so much! Couldn’t resist using this photo from that time we all went to WOMAD together in 2017. Ahh, what fun! Love you forever, Dadda xx💜xx taken in New Zealand by @rockstuffrecords

Pics from my Vinyl Day in May at The Urban Winery. I’m back at that beautiful venue on 28 June (and every last Sunday of each month). I started working in record shops in 1979, when I was a teenager. It's definitely a challenge to keep a record business operating in this day and age, but it certainly still gives just as much joy! To all my regulars, friends, family... thank you for your super support! And, of course, thanks to @tonybish.wines and @theurbanwineryahuriri
We have a blast on Vinyl Day, with records played, friendships made, drinks at the bar. Come along, if you can make it to Napier. Otherwise, there’s always online ROCKSTUFF.CO.NZ I’m constantly updating my website with popular, interesting, and rare vinyl. There’s no such thing as too many records!

Happy 2026, everybody! I didn’t quite make being a new year’s baby, as I arrived two hours later, on 2nd January! Here are a few photos, through the decades. I wanted to include people that I love and are very special in my life. 💜 They’ve made me laugh, made me sing, rocked my world and everything! 💜 Getting ready to party soon! 🎶🤘🏻🤩🎉🍻

1. Me in 1984, with my first Rega turntable - which I own to this day and it still runs well! I imported the Yes belt buckle and Van Halen shirt, drew and cut out the Whitesnake logo.
2. My l’il sister Marion (aged 8) and me (12)
3. With Marion again and my other sweet sister, Liz (Rolling Stones concert, 22 Nov 2014)
4. With my strapping young accountant brother, Tim, in 1986. Nicest guy you could ever meet!
5. Who’s that wee cute toddler? It’s @irisofficialmusic
6. Other adorable daughter @emilyjpdunn
7. Super cool wife, half my life! Caring Cathy, mother, like no other! (2024, The Cult concert)
8. My best friend in Auckland, Paul is possibly even a bigger Yes fan than me! We posed this photo, trying to look like the band on the inner gatefold of 'Relayer’.
9. My best friend in Napier, the brilliant Steve Welsh is getting helping hair from me!
10. My best friends in Dunedin, the two Petes! I’ve known these guys since primary school. We have gotten up to loads of mischief over the years and always up for a laugh! 🤣
11. I got framed, at another birthday party!
12. The theme for my 50th was “Rock Stars”. Can you guess who I went as?
13. My incredible eldest brother, Neil and I with our loving Dad and Mum, in 1994. Alan and Joanna… best parents in the world!

John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (3 Dec 1948 - 22 July 2025)

We miss you Ozzy! The passing of Ozzy Osbourne in July affected me too much to post anything at the time. For over 50 years, Ozzy has been a part of my life, bringing amazing music, laughter and fun into every day, with his and Black Sabbath’s records. A timeline is shown below, but it has been a blast to discover Sabbath as a kid, interview the man himself and experience Ozzy's magic four times in concert. Getting to meet him in person was a real “pinch me” moment and I‘ll always cherish the memories and music which Ozzy has left for us to enjoy.

1974: Heard Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’ album (a friend’s big brother had it). I could not believe the cool sounds coming from that Vertigo “swirl” LP. “I AM IIIIIRON MANNNNN!!!"

1975: Bought my first Sabbath LP from Roy Colbert’s 'Records Records’ in Dunedin, It was ‘Master of Reality’ and it had the poster!

1976 - 1980: Got every other Sabbath record and was completely blown away with Ozzy’s first solo LP. His new band, Blizzard of Ozz (with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley & Lee Kerslake) was so unique and so awesome! So sad that it didn’t last long. I did paintings of Randy and Ozzy (Pic 2), after hearing the tragic news of the plane crash on 19 March, 1982.

10 Feb 1989: I interviewed Ozzy! Writing for Ripitup Magazine put me in touch with a lot of my music heroes and talking to Ozzy over the phone was very surreal for me. Promoting his ’No Rest For The Wicked’ album and he was, of course, very funny! Article is Pic 5, I still have the tape.

11 Feb 1998: Ozzy (with Zakk Wylde, Mike Inez & Randy Castillo) played his first solo concert in New Zealand. I had a backstage pass, but Ozzy was shuffled out to his waiting car very quickly. He was looking tired, after an exhilarating performance. Loved every minute of that show!

12 Feb 1998: Forever grateful to the person who tipped me off, I got a call to say that Ozzy was just leaving his hotel! I grabbed a CD of ’No More Tears’ from Marbecks (where I worked, at the time) and raced up there. Sure enough, Ozzy and his daughter, Aimee were in the foyer! My new website has launched and I’m stoked! It took a lot of work and thought, now ROCKSTUFF.CO.NZ online store 2025 version is here! I started my previous site over 10 years ago and it's been totally superseded by this one, which has been rebuilt, better, stronger, faster… with even more vinyl! 🖤 Have fun browsing through the listings and score yourself a record or three! I welcome any feedback about the look and functionality of the site. Of course, it’s always a work in progress, with thousands more records to be added, reviews and other features still to come.

And it’s VINYL DAY @theurbanwineryahuriri on Sunday 31st August, too! 😃

Big thanks to caddie digital web design, here in Hawke’s Bay, who have done an amazing job to bring me the online store I have always wanted. taken in Napier, New Zealand by @rockstuffrecords

Hitting the road! So excited for our gig tomorrow night… our band, Hats Off To Led Zeppelin, are playing double bill with After Forever (Ozzy era Black Sabbath tribute) at Biddy’s in Hamilton city! Ticket demand has been great, looking like it’ll be a full house! Been a long time coming… last gig I did in “The Tron" was on 18 September 1982, at The Hillcrest, when I was in @rosebayonet !
