Vinyl day at The Urban Winery, a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

A collaboration to satisfy all the senses; great music, great food, and of-course, great wine.

We hope to see you there! 🥂🎶

It’s an exciting week at Urban this week! We’ve got our first quiz night on Thursday, which is fully booked! But if you missed out on this one don’t worry, we will be doing another in June.

On Sunday we have a very fun day of vinyl, wine and Greek food! Come and buy some awesome vinyls and eat some delicious souvlakis.

Our cellar door will be open as usual Thursday - Saturday 12-5pm for tastings and wines by the glass.

See you all soon!

8 April marked the 47th anniversary of @saga_band's self-titled debut album from 1978! It's an album I add to my list of the ones that truly changed my perspective of music and its innovative possibilities; it's a cornerstone and landmark recording of my personal visions and a central inspiration for the kind of music I'd like to create while still making something truly unique and my own.

I personally appreciate the extensive use of keyboards in this hybrid sound of classically and even operatically inspired, riffy progressive rock and the new wave that was emerging onto the airwaves in the late 70s and early 80s. But the way Saga navigates the waters of this hybrid form is so seamless, so effortless, like it was just a part of their sound; it was in their blood. Also, the way they wed extensive, complex prog song structuring with "consumer-friendly accessibility" is done so incredibly well.

In a genre where guitars are so prominent, it's refreshing to hear and see keyboards as a central instrument in this hybrid form genre. With three of five band members playing keyboards, synthesizers and synth bass (in addition to bass guitar), there's no shortage of variety in colour and timbre that makes Saga's low end so unique and unmistakably Saga. The guitar, however, still plays a very crucial role with careful, soft, clean melodies and metallic, staccato riffing that drives and adds magic.

SAGA
Ian Crichton – guitar 🎸
Jim Crichton – bass, synth bass, keyboards 🎸🎹🎹🎹
Steve Negus – drums and percussion, drum synth 🥁🥁🥁🥁🎹
Peter Rochon – keyboards, vocals 🎹🎹🎙
Michael Sadler – keyboards, vocals 🎹🎹🎙

Do you love the album? Let me know!

What a magic night at @cabana_musicvenue Saturday night. Thanks to our Hats off to Led Zeppelin bro's & Roy & the crew. Thank you to all who came out to see us 🍻
Napier, always a pleasure. The last pic(feeling it after Saturday night 😄) was a Pic with a massive Sabbath/Zeppelin fan over from the USA who made sure he was gonna be in Napier to catch both bands & we met at Breakfast. So glad Dave caught the show. Thank you sir for your kind words & chats. Safe travels!!! 🍻

Dark Side of the Moon.
New Zealand Fourth issue on Harvest Records
SHVL 804. 129 Gram vinyl.
Matrix SHVL 804-A / SHVL 804-B #1.
It's the early hours here in London and I'm the last one awake so I'm having a low key spin of this New Zealand pressing of DSOTM, I've got no idea which lacquers were used for the NZ pressings but this one sounds excellent...
