10 years ago, I was broke. I knew I had something to build but I had no idea how to do it. Today, I’ve built the platform I wish I’d had back then.

To the people who’ve been part of it from the beginning
thank you. You made this real.

To the ones still building
keep going. You’re closer than you think.

Join me on the journey. I promise, I’m only just getting started. by @roeisam

I’ve pitched over 800 times in my life. But for some reason, pitching @simonsquibb was nerve-wracking.

I have seen the difference that even just one of the right connections can make to people building their businesses. I want to make that feeling more accessible. Super excited to start this journey with the support of simon and the @helpbnk team. Let’s go! by @roeisam

How I got to $2m in <12 months

I talked to 100 people about the problem before I built anything. The proposition came from the patterns in those conversations, not a guess.

I hired people better than me at almost everything, as fast as I could. Most first-time founders won't do this. Ego gets in the way. I did it on purpose, and I still do.

I funded the business through customers. Sold the MVP at a steep discount, but money came in from day one. The MVP itself came from my RealSport exit, so I won't pretend it was zero capital. With tools like Lovable and Claude now, you don't need to spend money to get one built.

That's the real playbook. by @roeisam

I knew in school that a normal classroom structure wasn't how I learned. Same pattern at university. I worked in my own rhythm and ended up dropping out.

Nothing's changed. I work in focus sprints instead of a standard week, and I work weekends on purpose so weekday calls don't break up everything else.

It's not a productivity hack. It's working with how my brain actually works instead of fighting it. by @roeisam

Jack and I met about an hour before we recorded this, over a coffee order in Austin during @SXSW a few months back.

Got chatting, then filmed a impromptu podcast episode together. Full episode now live over on his channel The TechFrontier Podcast. 🎙️ by @roeisam

What an EPIC day in London yesterday. Met some of my faves from the @helpbnk community. @jhmotiv @sparadise_massage and Louis. Then hung out with the confidently curious founder of @connectduk @roeisam by @roeisam

Two things. Solve a real problem and have momentum. That’s it. Everything else is noise. Let me break it down:

If your product isn’t solving something people genuinely feel - not something you think they should feel, then no investor is saving you.

Momentum isn’t something you manufacture for a raise.

It has to already exist.

And be honest about why you’re raising. A lot of founders chase money for the headline and the attention. That’s the wrong reason. Know EXACTLY what you actually need the capital to do - and make sure the investor in front of you believes in that same version of the future.

The deck is just the door. What’s behind it is everything.

Most people want to start a business, but very few have the instincts to survive year one.

When things go wrong in business (and they will) your immediate reaction determines whether you build a multi £££ company or go broke.

How did you score?

Drop your total below - and if you got Q3 wrong, tell me why you made that choice! by @roeisam
