Stop doomscrolling. Join. A. Group. I suggest @4billiondead which has monthly international calls and actions because actuaries are now warning that at 3C or more of heating by 2050, there could be more than 4 billion deaths, significant sociopolitical fragmentation worldwide, failure of states (with resulting rapid, enduring, and significant loss of capital), and extinction events. If it's 2C by 2050 (guaranteed) that's 2 billion deaths. Both scenarios are 20-40 times worse than both world wars combined, respectively. See https://global-tipping-points.org/planetary-solvency/

The collapse of our one and only livable climate is accelerating! Take action for a better catastrophe!

The risks: Actuaries are now warning that at 3C or more of heating by 2050, there could be more than 4 billion deaths, significant sociopolitical fragmentation worldwide, failure of states (with resulting rapid, enduring, and significant loss of capital), and extinction events. If it's 2C by 2050 (guaranteed) that's 2 billion deaths. Both scenarios are 20-40 times worse than both world wars combined, respectively. See the report at https://global-tipping-points.org/planetary-solvency/

Feeling overwhelmed is understandable, but doing nothing guarantees nothing changes.

Start somewhere:

• Join or support a local climate group.
• Pressure politicians to phase out fossil fuels.
• Move your money away from banks that finance fossil fuel expansion.
• Reduce your reliance on fossil fuels, plastics, and high-emission products where you can.
• Switch to a plant-based diet for your own health and the health of the planet.
• Talk about the climate crisis with friends, family, and coworkers.
• Support independent climate journalism and organizations doing the work.
• Donate, volunteer, organize, protest, vote, and keep showing up.

No single action is enough on its own. But millions of people taking action together can shift politics, culture, and the economy.

The best time to start was years ago. The second-best time is today. by @rogerhallamcs21

🔥 The statement Roger Hallam wrote the evening he was sentenced to 5 years in prison as part of the #WholeTruthFive

💬 “Without facts, this is not a functioning democracy, but a government that is facilitating destruction and death. We do not have a functioning democracy.”

The climate movement can’t succeed by staying disconnected from the very people it hopes to engage. The real task is to grow strong social roots by linking climate action to the everyday challenges ordinary people face. When a movement becomes part of a broader social coalition, people stop watching from the sidelines and start getting involved. by @rogerhallamcs21

Civil resistance, mutual aid, and elections shouldn’t be seen as separate efforts, since each helps build the relationships, culture, and organizational capacity needed for lasting change. You might be working on an election campaign one day and taking to the streets the next, but the overarching goal remains the same: building a movement. The key is to avoid getting stuck in a single tactic and to shift between different forms of action as the moment calls for it. by @rogerhallamcs21

What's an acceptable number of deaths?

The number comes from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' Planetary Solvency report, which places mass death at over 4 billion in the worst-case risk category for 3°C of heating.

Some have objected to how we present it, insisting we say “illustrative scenario” and “risk of” rather than “prediction.” We use “predict” the way it’s actually used in everyday English, not the way it’s used inside a specific technical field.

A profession whose entire job is pricing risk conservatively for insurers, pension funds and governments, looked at the trajectory we’re on and put mass death in the billions into its worst-case band.

Focusing on whether the figure is “exact” is a way of avoiding what it actually makes us feel. You can win every argument about a figure and still have said nothing about the horror of what it refers to.

The fact is, we're on track towards mass death. We urgently need to stop what is happening.

Come along to our next public call, October 21st, 7pm BST, to find out what you can do. Link in bio: @4billiondead by @rogerhallamcs21

Revolution isn’t about ideology anymore, it’s about survival. The harsh reality is closing in while politics remains trapped in denial and short-term thinking, and you cannot bargain with physics or wait forever for those in power to act. By 2027, ordinary people may decide they have nothing left to lose, because the choice is becoming increasingly clear: fight to live, or face the consequences of doing nothing. by @rogerhallamcs21

You felt it this summer - the heat was relentless.

El Niño is coming, and it's only going to get worse. Approximately 546,000 people die as a result of extreme heat each year, and as temperatures continue to rise, so will the death toll.

The left has slowly withdrawn from the places where people actually live, moving politics online and talking mostly to people who already agree. That has left a vacuum in local communities, and the far right has moved into it by showing up, helping people, and building relationships. People are not primarily moved by political arguments; they are moved by who is there when they need help. The answer is to return to the territory, rebuild local communities, and make care and solidarity part of everyday life. If we want people to believe in change, we have to stop just talking about it and start showing up. by @rogerhallamcs21

The British Insurance Industry has predicted 4 billion people could die this century. There are no words.

When disasters strike, people don't automatically move to the left; they move toward whoever gives them an explanation and a way forward. The far right can exploit climate disasters when there is no alternative narrative or organisation on the ground. The climate crisis will create more moments of disruption, but those moments can lead anywhere. We need to be there with a story, a community, and an organisation that gives people a reason to act together. by @rogerhallamcs21

We have spent decades building small projects without asking how they connect to the bigger struggle for systemic change. Neoliberalism has fragmented us into specialists, each working in our own little corner without an overall strategy. Good projects are not enough if they remain isolated from one another. We need to connect our actions into a collective strategy for fundamental change. by @rogerhallamcs21
