Supporters of Defend Our Juries joined together with @just.stopoil this weekend to celebrate the incredible work they have carried out over the duration of their campaign.

While they are “hanging up the hi-vis”, their legacy will absolutely live on. Their spirit of resistance, their immense sacrifice, and their exposing of the corrupted UK judiciary will make history books.

By time the UK Government and the corporations with vested interests in silencing these brave truth-tellers admit that Just Stop Oil were right, it might be too late. Unless more of us step up and take on the challenge of speaking truth to power.

Alongside a number of UK campaign groups, we will support Just Stop Oil campaigners through their forthcoming sentencing hearings.

Roger Hallam is being unlawfully held in prison after an appeal at the Royal Courts made him eligible for immediate release under house arrest.

All of his co-defendants have been released, but the probation service is blocking his freedom, as an article from @thetimes explains today.

Imprisoned for telling the truth?

A probation official cited “media interest” to prevent Roger’s release. Is this an attempt at silencing Roger from speaking to the press?

Roger is eligible for Home Detention Curfew, just as his co-defendants were. Why is he still in jail?

Has Just Stop Oil just stopped?

🌍 Environmental campaign group @just.stopoil has announced it will cease direct action protests, with a final demonstration set for April 26 in Parliament Square.

The group claims its demand to stop new UK oil and gas projects has been met but warns that “nothing short of a revolution” will be needed to prevent climate catastrophe.

⚖️ The announcement follows a Court of Appeal decision earlier this month that reduced jail terms for six protesters, including co-founder @rogerhallamcs21.

🎉 Sentence reduced!

Lucia is now eligible for immediate release. There is a lot of admin to do first, so she won't actually be released for another 2 weeks or so.

For those that don't know, Lucia was originally sentenced to 4 years in prison back on 18th July 2024 charged with Conspiracy to Cause a Public Nuisance. She took part in a zoom call planning the Just Stop Oil M25 blockades in Nov 2022.

The UN Special Rapporteur, Michel Forst, attended the trial and said that their sentences put UK democracy in "grave peril". He went to say that the sentences would have a "chilling effect" on the right to protest.

The reduction in sentences is welcome but does not change the Special Rapporteur's assertions.

16 @just.stopoil activists are appealing 41 years of jail time for peaceful protest. The Court of Appeal’s decision could set a critical legal precedent on the right to protest. 🌍

Among them, @rogerhallamcs21, co-founder of Just Stop Oil and @theecologist_org contributor, is appealing his five-year sentence—for a Zoom call discussing nonviolent action.

Supporters, including @chrisgpackham2, @carolinelucasbrighton, Thomas, and @billybraggofficial, are rallying outside the Royal Courts of Justice, while solidarity actions spread worldwide.

@friends_earth & @greenpeaceuk warn that these sentences threaten democracy and human rights. The United Nations has called the UK’s crackdown on peaceful protest “unacceptable in a democracy.”

The Cost of Conscience.

Hundreds of people peacefully occupied the Strand and held a silent vigil outside the Royal Courts of Justice in support of political prisoners in the UK.

Inside, the appeal of draconian prison sentences for 16 Just Stop Oil supporters was being heard.

Defend Our Juries were joined by many different activist groups, politicians and celebrities to demand the end to excessive prison sentences for those who protest peacefully for a better world.

Yesterday, over 1,000 people stood together outside the Royal Courts of Justice.

Despite the police’s fear tactics, we were not afraid. We refused to let fear divide us, just as we refuse to let injustice stand.

34 political prisoners remain behind bars for resisting fossil fuels and genocide. 28 have been convicted of no crime, yet they are held on remand.

16 Just Stop Oil supporters appealed their extreme sentences yesterday—punishments designed not for justice, but to silence dissent.

Meanwhile, our government—its decisions shaped by oil and arms lobbyists—tightens its grip on protest. Those who profit from destruction fear those who resist it.

But we are not afraid. We will not stand by as corporate power hijacks our justice system. We will not let the voices of the brave be silenced.

We stood together in defiance, and we will stay defiant until justice prevails. Until they’re home.
