This summer, I learned to swim. I learned that panic makes the body heavy. That sometimes you have to stop fighting long enough to realize you were built to float. I learned that depth is not the same as danger. That not feeling the ground beneath you does not mean you are lost. Some places can only be reached once you stop needing something solid beneath your feet. I learned to breathe differently, to trust myself in unfamiliar depths, and to remember that going under does not mean you will stay there. Eventually, I stopped reaching for the edge.

This summer, I learned to swim.
Maybe next summer, my swim lessons will be in a pool. by @rogerlyne

just for fun 🧚🏾‍♀️

“I was 20 something in this pic. Yes! I remember. It was 2026 summer. Wow! I’ve been that girl” 🧚🏾‍♀️

If I was living in Liberia, this is the type of photo I’ll send to my husband in America with a hand written love note on the back saying how much I miss and love him and I can’t wait for us to be reunited again. I’ll start it with “my sweet darling” 💐

You have to let people pass you in traffic—let people cut you off and let them merge, because we often live how we drive. I notice how irritated I get when someone speeds up from behind me just to pass, and how I instinctively speed up too—because how dare they try to move faster than me.

And in quieter moments, I realize it’s the same feeling that shows up when I think I’m falling behind in life.

This season is teaching me patience—teaching me to exist without measuring myself against a world that thrives on competition. I remind myself that I will get there—that I am already there; it’s just a matter of when, a matter of walking into what already is. There is no need to rush—just drive. So I remind myself, gently and again and again: let them pass.
