August 22 @ Griffin Park on the Rogue River 9-5

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday Jon and I had the pleasure of hosting last year’s Rogue Spey Clave Grand Prize raffle winners @shajuniper and @tjorton

There couldn’t have been more deserving winners of this trip, as Sha and TJ happen to be two longtime local anglers who have been supporting the Southern Oregon fly fishing community for many years, and the Rogue is their beloved home water.

Thanks to everyone who supports the Clave — this is what it’s all about. See you July 31 2027 at Griffin Park.

Rogue Spey Clave 2026 -

What a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, learn from industry pros, and cast rods from companies all throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

We want to say thank you to the individuals who took the time to put this event together and those who chose to attend. @jonbonhazlett & @daxmessett did a great job gathering and coordinating the vendors who made this possible.

We’re already stoked on next year and suggest that those who didn’t get a chance to attend, put a note in the calendar!

Our Central Oregon Comrade Chris O’Donnell is making the trip to drop some Spey knowledge on us this year. His presentation, “Quit Hitting Yourself”, will hit close to home for many of you. Every guide has pulled hooks out of flesh, bone, clothes, you name it, but Chris leads the pack with 39 extractions already in 2026! Help lower these numbers by attending this presentation the Rogue Spey Clave. Stop the madness!

A little about Chris:

Chris O’Donnell owns and operates Bend Fly Shop and has been an Oregon based guide for over two decades. Most days on the water with Chris involve casting two-handed rods, where his thoughts come together for spey presentations. Chris’ approach to teaching leans towards simplicity. During all his spare time Chris loves tacos, beer, deep wading and catching snakes. He lives in Bend, Oregon with his wife and daughter.

Who’s ready for a Dec Hogan Double Header? Dec will present for the first time at the Rogue Spey Clave, August 22. That is of course free to the general public who attend the event.
The next day he’ll teach a class limited to a chosen few who want to take it to the next level. SIGN UP and PAY for the class at speylesson.com.

Dec’s presentation at the Clave will be:
“A little casting, a little fishing. We are in control of both.”

About Dec Hogan

Dec was a full-time steelhead guide from 1989 to 2003 guiding fly anglers on the beautiful Pacific Northwest waters of the Skagit, Sauk, Skykomish, Grande Ronde, and Deschutes Rivers. Like many guides of his generation, Hogan also did a 5-season stint guiding in Alaska’s famed Bristol Bay region early in his career. He is a pioneer of two-handed casting in North America and continues to be a highly sought after spey casting instructor. Dec still guides on the Grande Ronde River annually. With the help of others, he guides four, three-day float trips in the fall. He’s entering his 17th year of said excursions. He also conducts spey casting clinics across the Nation and Canada throughout the year. Hogan has been the guest of 14 podcasts in recent years, sharing his insights, passion and inherent humor surrounding the sport, and life in general. A SAGE and RIO Elite Ambassador, Hogan perpetuates his knowledge and influence in modern tackle design, As if one dream job weren’t enough Hogan’s had two: He just retired from a 20-year career as a firefighter/EMT. He’s helped strangers in their most dire need with the utmost care and empathy. In a nutshell Dec Hogan is a passionate, sharing man when it comes to fishing, nature and helping others improve their craft.

Border crossing expert Tim Arsenault will be stoking us this year with his Canadian bravado, so get ready people! Tim brings it!

His presentation “Maintaining and Building Tension”, is bound to be entertaining and thought provoking, a must see.

Tim Arsenault’s love for Steelhead fishing and Spey Casting has shaped most of his adult life, starting with working in fly fishing retail and then progressing into retail management, product design, casting instruction, and hosted travel.
His love for Spey Casting eventually led him to competitive casting and the GGAC where he has been a regular competitor since 2011 and became world champion in 2024.
Tim is also the founder and product designer at Bridge Fly Fishing Products. You can find them at www.bridgeoutfitting.com or on Instagram @bridge_116.2
