Husband. Father. In 2021 I severed my rotator cuff and tore my bicep. After a year of recovery, at 51, I started CrossFit and documented my journey.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Three years ago today, I walked through the doors of my first CrossFit gym.

Knowing very little about CrossFit and only seeing the high-skilled movements on YouTube, I was a little intimidated. But I came with a lot of energy, a willingness to work hard, and a desire to learn as much as possible.

After four months at my first gym, I realized the energy, programming, and overall atmosphere just weren’t right for me or where I wanted to go with CrossFit. So, I started the hunt for a new gym here in Ocala, Florida.

That’s when I found Tier One.

I called the number on the website, and part owner/coach Ryan Lilly answered. I explained that I was looking for a new gym and wanted a place where I could do the CrossFit Open, which was only a week away.

Ryan simply said, “Come in and try it”. You don’t have to pay us to do the Open. Just see if you like it.”

I walked through those doors, and on my first day at Tier One, I knew unequivocally that this was the place for me.

3 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined I would be where I am today in this sport.

I bring energy. I bring effort. I bring the will to get better every single day. But it’s not just that. Getting to where I am today has been a combination of so many things — the environment, my wife Kimberly Romine, my gym peers, the programming, the coaches, the people believing in me, nutrition, and all the other little things that come together to make a big difference.

So much of what I’ve learned about CrossFit is at Tier One.

I’m incredibly grateful I made that phone call 2 1/2 years ago.

Three years in, the goal hasn’t changed.

Keep learning. Keep working. Keep getting better.

And keep chasing the dream.

Thank you, TIER ONE // CrossFit DBP, Aj Ravay, Ryan Lilly, Stephen Wexler, for being a huge part of this journey. ❤️‍🔥💪🏼 Let’s redefine what 55+ can look like by @ronaldromine

I really have focused on recovery and the nutrition over the last year. But the biggest difference is in my gym’s programming! I show up every single day ready to execute. Learning how to approach a work out is something I’m starting to learn. Always testing my capacity, limits and having coaches help with strategies has help me tremendously. @tier1crossfitdbp by @ronaldromine

“1 point from🥇” Second place is not as good as first place—and that’s exactly why I’m hungry for more.

October will mark three years of doing CrossFit officially. In that time, I’ve trusted the process. I’ve listened. I’ve learned. And most importantly, I’ve continued to get better.

When I first started CrossFit, it was me, me, me, me, me. As time has gone on, I’ve realized that achieving my dreams and reaching my goals is going to take a whole lot of WE.

Thank you to my wife for being right by my side and supporting me through this entire CrossFit journey. Thank you to my coaches, gym peers, family, and everyone who has supported me and pushed me further and further—faster than I ever imagined I could go when I started.

As I enter the 55–59 division, it’s time to dial in, identify my weaknesses, make the necessary adjustments, and keep putting in the work.

The last competition of the year is in the books. Now the next chapter begins.

CrossFit Games 2027.
The dream is still alive.
The work continues.
Let’s go. 💪🔥#tieronecrossfitdbp by @ronaldromine

Great competition weekend at the Monster Games 2026 Overland Park, KS and coming in 🥈 place. Having the privilege to meet and compete alongside some great CrossFit Games athletes isn’t an everyday occurrence. I took full advantage of the moment. I tried my best to challenge The legend @kevinjkoester amongst others there. Lessons are learned through experience and this was a really great moment for just that. Here’s to next year 🥂#Monstergames2026 by @ronaldromine

What an amazing experience to participate in CrossFits first in person masters semifinals. Magic City Games in Birmingham, AL really did a killer job with this event. Red carpet entry was 1st class. Finished 11th in my division. Wouldn’t even have came this far this fast if not for my support system at home Kimberly @berlywayne and my gym in Ocala, FL @tier1crossfitdbp. There are moments everyone sees.
An event placement. A leaderboard. 14 minute workouts on the competition floor.

Very few people see the sacrifice and dedication that come with success. How necessary it is to surround yourself with people who make your goals their own. How much it really costs to go all-in for what you want. The value of a wife, coaching team, family, and gym that will give anything to see you reach your greatest heights.

I’m in awe of you, @ronaldromine - not just for the effort that you put forth this past weekend at @magiccity.games - but for everything leading up to it, too. You have made @tier1crossfitdbp so proud, and to reach this level after only two years means that your sacrifices, instincts, and choices have been the right ones for you.

You inspire me to believe that I can be what I want to be. It’s an honor to be a part of this journey with you, and the time that I have spent watching your heart and mind grow in this sport has changed me forever. And my favorite part of all of that is the joy that comes with having you and @berlywayne as my friends.

I can’t wait to see how far you go, and I will always been in your corner. Keep the passion alive. 👊🏻

This past weekend at the CrossFit Semifinals competition I placed 11th out of 29 men it was both terrifying and exhilarating. Standing out there alone, being judged alongside some of the best athletes in the world, I felt anxious, nervous—and completely vulnerable. But this is the moment I’ve been chasing ever since I first discovered CrossFit.

I still remember less than 3 years ago not even knowing what it was, looking it up, and thinking how incredible it looked. Pushing your limits in every possible way. From that moment on, I dreamed of making it to the Games. Dreams that would wake me up at night and having to write down a workout that was fresh from that dream.

That dream has been built on countless days of soreness, small nagging injuries that go unmentioned, nutritional challenges, and hundreds upon hundreds of workouts and thousands of reps,no matter how I felt—headaches, fatigue, soreness—I showed up. Every single time.

I didn’t get here alone. My wife Kimberly and my @tier1crossfitdbp family has been instrumental in pushing me forward. Their support, time, and belief in me have helped shape not only where I am now, but where I’m going.

I’m proud of the effort I gave in this competition.

From the outside looking in, it might seem like I’ve lived an easy life—but those who truly know me understand that hasn’t been the case. I’ve faced moments that could have ended everything—dying three times on an operating table, drowning and being resuscitated, and other hardships along the way.

After retirement, I felt lost. I didn’t know where I was going or what I was meant to do. Then I found CrossFit.

It gave me direction. It gave me purpose. And it gave me something worth chasing again. The Road To The Games Continues🦾❤️🇺🇸 thanks for the inspiration @jasongrubb_fitness by @ronaldromine

As I sit here thinking about the upcoming semifinals competition this coming weekend, I just finished washing my favorite CrossFit shoes and left them out in the sun to dry. Looking at them got me reflecting on what a journey these last three years has been.

Three years ago, I heard the word CrossFit for the first time and honestly didn’t have a damn clue what it was. So I did what most people do—I Googled it, watched some videos on YouTube, and thought how cool it looked. The gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, and just the general chaos and all—jumping around like a kid on a playground—it pulled me in right away.

After my shoulder surgery, I started working out with a friend in my neighborhood. He was the one who introduced me to CrossFit and helped me take that first step.

These were the first 2 pairs of CrossFit shoes I bought. I still wear them at least once a week depending on what my coach has programmed for the day. They’ve been with me through every small competition and every major competition that I have stepped onto the floor for and or field.

I have over 30 pairs of CrossFit shoes now, but I still reach for these two pairs when it’s time to go to work. They’ve carried me through wins and losses. They’ve got holes you can clearly see. They’re old, worn, and beat up—but they still do their job so I can do mine.

Kind of like me.

Sometimes it’s not about having the newest gear—it’s about trusting what’s been with you through the grind. Like Kimberly Romine and my TIER ONE // CrossFit DBP family.

These shoes have a story, and so does the guy who wears them. by @ronaldromine

Showing up everyday and putting in the required work/effort shows over time. I came to @tier1crossfitdbp 2 years ago with a 1 Rep max bench press of 225Ibs. Environment and the people in it matter. One class at a time. One rep at a time. One day at a time. “The Process” #mastersathlete50to54 by @ronaldromine

One year ago this week, Ronald Romine Jr. set a goal to compete at the Monster Games. He finished the qualifier right at the cut line — just enough to get in.

Since then, I’ve watched him commit at a level most people never see. Two-a-days in the gym. Rewatching videos to dissect every movement. Investing in personal training. Constantly refining, adjusting, improving. No shortcuts — just discipline and relentless effort.

And the work paid off.

Today, we received the final invite for this year’s Monster Games — and he didn’t just make the cut. He placed 2nd in the online qualifier!!!!

From barely getting in… to solidifying his place at the top of the field.

I couldn’t be more proud of the dedication, growth, and grit you’ve shown this past year. I’m so excited to cheer you on again and can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! 🖤🖤🖤 @ronaldromine by @ronaldromine
