I want to take a moment to highlight someone incredibly special, our November Challenge Winner, Ron.

And I want to tell you why he was chosen, because his story stopped me in my tracks.

Ron has been fighting stage 4 lymphoma.

He’s been through exhaustion, dizziness, losing muscle, watching his body change in ways he never expected. And he’s doing it while showing more resilience than most people ever have to tap into.

When I read his post, what stood out wasn’t only the physical challenges he’s facing,it was the strength of his mindset.

Even in the middle of treatment, in the middle of uncertainty, he’s choosing to move.
He’s choosing to walk a few miles a day.
He’s choosing to lift light weights.
He’s choosing to show up.

He said something that really moved me:
‘I may never get back to where I was, but I know I can get stronger every day so I can enjoy life without limitations.’

That’s powerful.

It’s about quality of life.
It’s about being here for the people you love.
It’s about doing everything you GET to do today.

I say that a lot.

We GET to workout today. We GET to move today.

Ron,
I’m proud of you.
Your courage, your consistency, your attitude… it inspires everyone in our community and it inspires Mel and me. Thank you for trusting me. Keep walking, keep lifting, keep fighting and we’ll be right here with you every step of the way.

If you are still reading, take a moment to appreciate what you GET to do today, not what you have to do. by @ronrainone

What happened to my body? Watching the effects of cancer. Took a while to figure it out, but the answer was stage 4 lymphoma. I was sidelined and not able to walk 50 feet without being exhausted. Standing up too fast caused a head rush. 15 pounds, most of which was muscle, disappeared.

Treatment is almost as bad as the disease. But I survived the first round and am mentally prepared for the remaining ones over the next year. Won’t know until then where I stand, but doctors are optimistic. One reason is my conditioning before the diagnosis, which they say will help my body deal with treatment and rebound quicker. I have an amazing trainer, @donsaladino who has helped people of every level get stronger. Being able to trust someone like that is so comforting. If you need guidance, check him out. I’m already walking a few miles each day and can lift light weights.

I may never get back to where I was, but I know that I can get stronger every day to get to where I can enjoy life without limitations. It will take commitment, consistency and patience. Quality of life is more important than how much I can bench press or if my abs are popping.

For now, I GET to go to the gym, I GET to see my loved ones, and I GET to be above ground today! I hope you appreciate all the things you GET to do today. ❤️

Goodbye corporate world. Time to start an early retirement. Getting out while I’m still in shape to do all the things I love. If anyone wants me, I’ll be walking dogs at the shelter or enjoying all the great outdoor activities Maui has to offer! by @ronrainone

My home is safe for now. We weren’t in any of the fire zones. We think the worst of the fires is over. Maui is a mess. I’m heading back to work to support the linemen trying to restore power. Go hug your loved ones. by @ronrainone

Had an incredible time with many members of my fit family in Puerto Vallarta. We learned about exercise and nutrition, worked out in the hot humid days and had fresh nutritious food. It was great to see everyone encouraging each other, sharing stories and learning from each other. We relaxed in the pool and ocean, played volleyball, went paddle boarding and sang karaoke. We formed friendships that will last a long time. I’m still amazed at how close you can get with people in one week.
Thank you @donsaladino for putting together an incredible community and @mel.ic.ious for keeping everything organized and making things run smoothly. This was a much needed break from the grind of daily life. The mindset at the end of the trip was so much better than the beginning and has carried over into everyday life. I saw some strengths and weaknesses in myself there and have started correcting the weaknesses and building on the strengths. All these people who encouraged me, inspired me and laughed with me will always have a special place in my heart.

Great weekend in LA! Sat 6 rows behind Aaron Judge at Saturday’s Dodgers game. He hit a home run, made a great catch and the Yankees won! Also hit Petersen auto museum and had some great food. Whirlwind two days, but lots of fun. by @ronrainone

When you complete an 11 mile hike at 10,000 feet elevation, you appreciate all the time you put in at the gym. All those exercises allow you to do the things you enjoy. That’s my motivation for putting in the work!

Sometimes we need help hitting our goals. It’s ok to ask. I found @donsaladino who has a full body training program that prepares you for any activity you want to do. Each month he has a challenge where it’s you against yourself. No magic bullet, crazy diets, or x number of days to a new you. It’s all about making small changes that add up over time and getting into a consistent routine of healthy eating and exercise. And it’s for people at all levels, couch potatoes to athletes.

The other members of the community are also amazing. Everyone there supports each other, provides help and inspiration when you need it, and never makes you feel bad when you struggle.

I joined because I knew I needed help improving. I got the help from my trainer and found an incredible fit family that has been there for me in the rough times and celebrated with me in the good times. Check it out if you’ve been looking for a way to improve your health.

I’m off to plan my next adventure!

Your age does not define your health.
When I was younger, people in their 50's were out of shape, overweight & lacked energy. I was told it was inevitable. In my 40's, friends went down that path. I made changes to eat cleaner to deal with lower metabolism and stayed active. In my 50's, friends started taking meds to combat diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. I looked for people that were defying that to understand how they did it. I wasn’t doing bad, but realized I could be much better with the right trainer who believed you can train to have a healthy body into your 90's. Enter @donsaladino who said, "you’re working out, not training." It was true, I didn't have a plan to keep all parts of my body healthy. He doesn't have a magic bullet, like silly diets of eating only cabbage for a month to lose weight, which are temporary solutions and can negatively impact your overall health. He focuses on small changes; the only trainer I ever heard say, "If someone eats fast food 7 days a week and they drop down to 4 days, I'm happy because we improved!" It's not about giving everything up & spending hours each day in the gym. It's cleaner nutrition and moving the body the right way.
We need to understand we have bad days and do what we can to stay on course. One missed workout or 4000 calorie Super Bowl party are not going to derail all the effort from the other good days of the month. When you are consistently eating healthy food, you can splurge when you want and not feel guilty. I've seen people drop over 100 pounds and keep it off, others that couldn't walk around the block improve to run a 5K.
Most importantly, I've seen myself change from the picture on the left to the picture on the right. I tried to be as active as possible in my teens and twenties because I thought I would lose the ability to play sports, ride bikes or hike. But I'm doing all those things now and plan to do them until my body takes its last breath. I'm living proof that you can gain muscle and improve mobility in your 50's. I'm happy every time I look in the mirror and I'm excited for the future! I wish my younger self could see this.

I hope the jitterbug champs are dancing together again. My father, Guy Rainone has passed. He led a full life, was always ready for a fun night, and always there for those that needed him. We lost my mother 8 years ago and he missed her every day. He went peacefully, but will be missed by so many. Thanks for all the great memories, dad. I love you ❤️ by @ronrainone

What does one year with @donsaladino look like? More muscle, less fat, and a bigger smile.
What does one year with donsaladino feel like? More energy, a desire to stay healthy and more enjoyment of life.
Don is the most inspiring coach I have ever seen. He is always there for you and truly cares about you as an individual. He works with you on every aspect of your health; exercise, nutrition, sleep and mental well being. He tailors his plan to the individual, because he knows there isn’t a one size fits all approach to good health. Under his leadership, I have seen people lose over 100 pounds and keep the weight off (a big difference from the fad diets.) I’ve seen fit people pack on more muscle and gain more mobility. Many people credit him with changing their lives for the better. Again, because he sees you as an individual.
I never understood macros until I learned it from him. I didn’t realize I was just working out every day and not properly training my body. I felt strong and could do things I loved, like hiking, playing ball and biking. But now I have even more power and endurance so that I have improved those things at age 56, and feel more like I’m 26.
Don’s monthly challenges are not a competition between the members, but a challenge to yourself to improve. He doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but wants you to slowly improve to develop a healthy lifestyle. It’s about long term results.
The challenger community he has created is amazing. People encourage each other, offer support when you need it and cheer you on when you start hitting your goals. It is the greatest online community I have ever seen.
If you are looking to lose weight, learn how to eat more nutritiously, put on muscle, or just keep yourself healthy, Don Saladino is the coach for you. Check him out and join a challenge if you want to improve your lifestyle. I am thankful every day that I made the decision to join him.

Being happy where you are.

I’ve been training with Don Saladino for about a year. I’ve learned more efficient training techniques, the importance of macros and so much more from him. Most of all, I learned to appreciate my current state. I know we can always improve on things, add more muscle, get more definition or increase stamina. But with Don, I’ve learned to stop worrying about how much better things can be and appreciate where I am today.

56 years old, no excess body fat, annual physical numbers are great, no need for any medication and in better shape than all my friends of the same age. I can hike 10 miles in rough terrain, kayak or go mountain biking anytime I want, and outperform people half my age at the gym. That is success to me!!! I’ll never stop trying to improve, but if I don’t, it’s ok because I can look in the mirror and say, “I’m happy with my body now.”

Don is the only online trainer I know that makes himself available 5 days a week for any questions you have…and he answers EVERY question. He also has a weekly video call with the entire group so we can learn from each other. He has created a caring and supportive group of people, and the energy is contagious. Don honestly cares about every person he trains. He adjusts things for people of all skill levels so anyone can participate and see improvement. If you want to get back in shape, lose weight or stack muscle onto an already lean body, please check out @donsaladino !
