Why bother co-designing our public spaces with the local community?

… because who’s gonna live there? oh right, the community!!! the experts and the stakeholders, who hold the answers of what their community needs. It’s not rocket science, but it can really make a difference🏡🐞🌸

Last month, we hosted our ‘Community Co-Design Workshop’ in collaboration with @middlesexuniversity ✨

As we develop designs for our community garden/social space in Rushgrove Park, Colindale, it was integral that this process was led by the wants and needs of the local community. We decided where we wanted seating, what plants should be planted, and what activities the space should facilitate🌸🏡🐞🐛🌳 we will be discussing and developing these plans with @barnetcouncil in the coming weeks❗️

A massive thank you so all residents who attended, our amazing project facilitators @lauren.architecture @7aeyongg @magda.jaro , the incredible BTS crew led by @joannasu___ and the wonderful @chrissymrose from @middlesexuniversity who helped make this event happen!!!! A huge team effort from an all-female team🤪🤪🤪

Special shoutout to @harrychubb for supplying the mini trees and massive dogs🐕🐕🐕

🌱Transforming Local Green Spaces!

🎤I joined Mia-Ming Steel, cofounder of @rootedcityproject to talk all about the importance of accessible nature in urban environments.

🚮This community-led group developed in response to a site that was neglected and used for fly-tipping. Through volunteering and partnerships with stakeholders like @middlesexuniversity @wearekier @marlborough_highways, RCP began cleaning up the space to protect local wildlife and bring it back into use. Now established in the area, the team have been offered to develop a more permanent community garden at the other end of the park!

🏅Acknowledged for her initiative and dedication, Mia was highly commended as part of the @barnetcouncil Environment and Sustainability Awards. She was nominated by Councillor Humayune Khalick, Colindale South Ward, noting “I believe that her efforts deserve recognition not only for her work so far but as this will help enormously in helping her with future projects in the Borough.”

Are you…
• Local to Colindale?
• A regular at Rushgrove Park (or curious about it)?
• Interested in community, nature, or public spaces?
• Passionate about landscape design, sustainability, or urban planning?

Then this session is for you🤩🏡🫶🏼

Help us design a new community garden/space in Rushgrove Park🏡🪏🪴🧑🏽‍🌾

After a year of clearing waste and restoring the site, we’re now co-designing what comes next; with the support of @middlesexuniversity and @barnetcouncil. This interactive session is your chance to directly influence what we design and build over the coming months.

Together, we’ll explore ideas to transform this space into something that reflects the needs of the local community (whether that’s a place to gather, grow, rest, or play)

Open to all✨ especially local residents, creatives, and anyone passionate about community and nature.

We will be filming/taking pictures during this event🎥
