Be the change you want to see 🏆

Last weekend @rootedcityproject ran by @mngstl and @ma.anghella held its second community engagement event at @middlesexuniversity for our Rushgrove Park project in Colindale!

Not only were we able to develop a promising spatial direction for the site, but we also had the opportunity to really listen to the people who will ultimately shape and benefit from it. It’s really set placemaking as a strong direction for my future studies 💡

We're not starting a podcast... yet 🎙

But we are launching our new "Failure Series" because no leader has a perfect path and mistakes are how we learn to be better. 😌

A quote from our Marketing & Comms Director:
"I got inspired by my CEO, who was talking about failure to fail and then found myself relating to it. I am very grateful to have a leader who's capable of owning setbacks and being honest about mistakes. But if there's anything I've learnt from this, it's that I gesticulate with my hands a lot!" 👐

Turns out leadership is not about being perfect, but is mostly honesty, resilience and the occasional dramatic hand movement. 💙

🌱Transforming Local Green Spaces!

🎤I joined Mia-Ming Steel, cofounder of @rootedcityproject to talk all about the importance of accessible nature in urban environments.

🚮This community-led group developed in response to a site that was neglected and used for fly-tipping. Through volunteering and partnerships with stakeholders like @middlesexuniversity @wearekier @marlborough_highways, RCP began cleaning up the space to protect local wildlife and bring it back into use. Now established in the area, the team have been offered to develop a more permanent community garden at the other end of the park!

🏅Acknowledged for her initiative and dedication, Mia was highly commended as part of the @barnetcouncil Environment and Sustainability Awards. She was nominated by Councillor Humayune Khalick, Colindale South Ward, noting “I believe that her efforts deserve recognition not only for her work so far but as this will help enormously in helping her with future projects in the Borough.”

💭Where is your nearest green space and how could it be improved?

🔊Listen to award winner Mia and hear about the amazing work she has done in Barnet. We are celebrating the women and girls of Barnet. The awards honour the incredible women across the borough who have inspired others through their leadership, resilience and positive impact.

🌟HIGHLY COMMENDED: Mia‑Ming Steel from Rooted City Project in Colindale, rewilding areas of Rushgrove Park and creating a new nature space for residents and local schools.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY!!!

I am extremely honoured to have won an award for IWD this year (for the Environment and Sustainability category) for our work at @rootedcityproject , by @barnetcouncil - London’s second largest borough! To be surrounded by such inspirational women in other fields , wow wow wow … I am truly touched.

But I am only one representative of @rootedcityproject. This award goes out just as equally to my fellow co-founder @ma.anghella. Without her, I wouldn’t have had the energy, motivation and willpower to regenerate a park last year. Thank you so much for everything you do🥹🥹🥹 As we continue our next project this year, our team has grown to even many more incredible women (all working amazingly BTS) and we can’t wait to show what we are currently up to.

And massive thank you Councillor Humayune Khalick, who nominated me for this award 💜 this project has gained a lot more local attention than we anticipated and we are so proud for what we achieved in less than a year.

I think I’ve always been a ‘builder’ to some degree (hence the pics of me on construction sites since day1😭) - whether that be through building furniture at school, architecture at uni, and now… building real community! It doesn’t matter, but as long as I’m creating something socially and environmentally impactful, I’m happy :)

To many more blessings to my amazing female network - you guys ROCK😎😎😎😎

pass me the mic, but not for karaoke xxx

Yo this might be the first Asian gathering I’ve been to where the mic wasn’t used for karaoke?💀💀 thank you so much to @esea.green.lions for inviting me to be a speaker at this potluck event at the @museumofthehome in Hoxton, London. Fun as always to ramble on about our work at @rootedcityproject 🪏🪏🪏- but also touching on indigenous land stewardship and how we can practice ancestral wisdom in urban areas (reclaiming neglected land as community/third spaces!!!). Fun fact: Asia is home to 70% of the worlds indigenous peoples (350-400mil individuals!)

What a wonderful afternoon it was to hear from amazing east + south east Asian creatives, activists, community leaders and more, as well as mingle with all those who attended 🐲 u guys inspire me sm I adore events like these. Also big up to whoever brought the kare-kare and kimchi pancakes… I’ve never been so full at a networking event 😭😭🥵 was also very happy to see all my egg noodles finished 🤪🤪 hope to stay connected and meet up again soon😝🐲💚

Highly recommend to follow @esea.green.lions to see any upcoming events like these! And thank you to @squidhorsecomics @themolluscdimension for the amazing illustrations you made🤩
