This is 30 freakin’ 4!!! In a matter of a few days, I got to celebrate the love union of my best friends, swim in the forever thud of Black electronic music and become new in wells of love that will last well beyond my lifetime. Another spin around the sun.

To my community: we’ve done it, y’all. We’ve broken through. We’ve arrived at just how powerful our collective love is. I’m so moved. So, so deeply moved. I’m different, and my entire life makes sense getting to do it with you. This next year is pink. It’s fleshy. It’s warm. It’s YOU. 😩🐌💗🎉🌹👑🎢🎁 by @rootmouth

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY TWIN FLAME 🪞🌹

To actually truly love with an open heart equal parts surrender and steady is brain rewiring! 🤪 This love is enduring. Spacious and held. Rigorous and the softest place to land. Restful and adventurous. Clock time continues to fly but the slow growth of this journey with you makes the movement of life feel just right. I love you so much Cody! by @rootmouth

It has been a hard year, and I am grateful it was. I tried so many things for the first time. Made a 300 sq ft biodynamic garden with weekly support from a mentor. Wrote a lot of songs that won’t see the light of day. Lived in more than one place. Rebranded and told no one. Got so close to building a new structure on the farm and failed. Watched the Northern Lights dance. Their hips don’t lie. Shook some ass but not more than my fair share. Questioned who I was. Then leaned into my anchors. Mourned the dead. Prayed for the living. Went far and never left. All under a shifting climate and a pedofascist regime. The writing is the award. This week’s essay: Fourth-Person Consciousness. I fear I’ve snapped at just the right angles to let the sun in. #rootmouth #Substack #subvert #Blackstudies by @rootmouth

🌅 last night @ a glance 🌅

I can feel the stagnation slime slithering off of me. Months of working in quiet solitude … meandering … wondering where I am going only to find myself exactly where I need to be. The gap between where I am and somewhere else is the belief that I am capable.

It is so much easier to give up. To say I can’t reach. To hide behind other people’s dislike of my sound and world-building.

But at the end of the day this reality chose me. It put me in front of people like @sanjtakhar, a pioneer in cradling entire scenes of music in their humble hands. Folks like @anmusiccomposer, @_ewmusic_, @riselli.m and @cello.kabob whose life-long dance with music is built on a foundation that lasts.

There is nothing quite like crying with hundreds of people in a church over a @beverlyglenncopeland set. His dedication to community, love and spirit are so deeply felt. New friends @trio.topanga made the room that much warmer. I will remember last night forever. 🥹

And to my friends and family that support me and make all of this possible—your love is THE fabric of stars people dream about—🌠

@Izzyy.rrose is a 24yr old Burundian singer-songwriter who has mastered the art of soft yet powerful vocals, pairing her melodic voice while flowing through a range of genres. Her newest single, “CHERI'' is an emotional and intense description of a past lover or distant memory, felt through cut throat and blunt lyrics accompanied by sweet and soft acoustics.

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

@trio.topanga is an all-female indie-folk St. John’s supergroup! Singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Katie Baggs, Carole Bestvater, and Valmy have found a rare kind of magic in each other, using three-part harmonies, acoustic guitar, five-string violin, double bass, and piano as conduits for exploring arrangements of their solo projects.

❄️❄️❄️❄️

@almostkarmabutnotquite is an Igbo Nigerian recording artist and cultural worker that rearranges the energy of space such that the colonial underpinnings of this reality become compost. Their recordings are made from electroacoustic material across an ongoing mapping of spatial whimsy and transnatural bonds between cosmology, culture, and craft. Kamra’s durational works are audible and vibrational systems used to transport, not from here to there but through a spectrum of both shared and coveted dialects.

See you soon!

It’s been 7 weeks since the release of my first full-length album. It all feels very natural if I’m being honest. I was so in my body singing these songs all over North America accompanied by @r.o.h.a.n.a, @robot_x_9000, @anmusiccomposer, @yango.bongo, and @brydonejohnc. There are cassettes available via @peopleplacesrecords Bandcamp! Love you and hope to be singing in a city near you very soon. 🫶🏾💋💿🫀 by @rootmouth

Traveling to share music is an enormous privilege even though it use to be a collective necessity. All our worlds and therefore needs swirl together like cosmos inextricably linked meaning our social norms change to accommodate circumstantial layouts—simply put, the relic sonic oral tradition is in the middle of becoming something else entirely.

Amidst that churning suspended in spacetime, I sing from my feet and belly brokenhearted over the thinning veil our dead clamor and as sassy as Lil’ Richie belting gutter blues. I look forward to seeing you in a city near you wide eyed & full of rage.

Shift Circuit comes out tomorrow on @bandcamp Friday!
