Fly Fishing has always adopted ideas from the traditional gear world and made them work in the fly fishing world especially for warm water species. So when I came across this Ned Rig pattern on the internet I had to try it for myself.

Is there a line for when flies become too much like lures? And if so what is it? Debate in the comments.

We are back from our annual trip up north chasing steelhead. Shop is open today for regular hours and we are going to start our fall hours this week so we will be closed Monday through Wednesday and will be open Thursday through Sunday 9-5.

Fly Tying nights at @sylvanbrewing are going to start the first Thursday of November and we will have them every other Thursday through the winter season. These are open to everyone and Bring Your Own Vise (BYOV). If you are looking try fly tying and need to barrow a vise send us a message and we can bring extra materials.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steve Sobieniak, founder of Root River Rod Co. He passed Thursday, September 22nd after a year long battle with cancer. Steve was an avid fly fisher, a skilled rod maker, and a great man. He greeted every customer like a friend and had a true gift of meeting people where they were and helping them get where they wanted to go. He will be deeply missed.

Services will take place at Camp Creek Farms in Preston, Minnesota on October 8th from 2-5 pm. A Go Fund Me account has been set up in his honor, the link will be in our bio.

While we could never replace Steve, RRRCo will continue on in the hands of his daughter and son in law, as well as our amazing shop team you know and love. #rootriverrodco taken in Root River Rod Co. by @rootriverrodco

The season is Not over yet! Fly fishing has been great this week and will continue to get better with the temperatures cooling off.

Reminder that all streams in southeast MN close after the 15th except a few designated areas that include Lanesboro. by @rootriverrodco

Fly fishing for smallmouth bass in the fall is awesome But you have to down to them.

Currently in Lanesboro we are seeing water go down which is good. I’ve seen a few people out on smaller streams fishing which is also good.

The Root River is still very high and won’t be fishable for few days atleast.
