Never stop working in your sketchbook, as you don’t know where a little spontaneous drawing can lead to! 😊 This is my process of illustrating a non-fiction book about the history and science of amusement parks called SCREAM (if you wanna go faster!!!). I really loved working on this book and diving into this crazy world full of festivity, twinkling lights and crazy constructions. 🎡

Months of working on this book wrapped into a little carousel post. 😄 I hope this gives you a bit more insight into the making of a project like this! 🩵

A little reminder for anyone who needs to hear it, to keep creating and experimenting without a goal in mind! 💚 I put this plein air sketching week in my calendar ages ago and when it was almost here I nearly skipped it, so I could work more on current commissioned projects. But I decided not to give in to the work pressure and granted myself some days of full creative freedom 😌 I’m not sure yet what I will do with these paintings but I feel like something new is bubbling, and I loved sketching on this big size 🌾 Stay tuned!

The interactive exhibition I’ve been working on is open! 💚 In three diorama’s you can follow the short but rich life of two mayflies who only live for one day. 🪲 Visitors playfully experience the cycle of life and related themes such as growing up, falling in love, and saying goodbye. In artworks filled with small animals, you can discover poetic questions that invite reflection on haste, peace, and living in the moment. 🐌 It’s part of a bigger exhibition about the concept of time called ‘Het Klokkenhuis’ organized by @devrijstaat, a wonderful place where kids can experience art in all its forms. 🌿

One of the most incredible experiences of my life! 🏔️
10 days of trekking through the Himalayas with nothing but a rucksack on our backs. 💛
We walked through rice fields, authentic little villages and jungles full of monkeys. And eventually ended up in an oasis of yaks, looking out over the sacred Fishtail mountain and the Annapurna range at sunrise, at an altitude of 4200 meters. 🌞
Starting in Pokhara, we first hiked part of the Annapurna trek and then continued with the Mardi Himal trek.
Our guide Kamal has known my boyfriend Bastiaan for over 20 years, which made it even more magical to share this experience with him.
In the evenings we had Dal Bhat, followed by hot chocolate by the fireplace in little cottages.
I could feel myself getting stronger every day, and on the last days we even went faster than expected! 🥾

I’m so happy that our kids theatre play De Boekenboom is selected for the longlist for the World Illustration Awards 2026 in the ‘Exploration’ category! 🌿 And this is also a great moment to share that we have now formed a really wonderful project together with the Writers House of Rotterdam @hetveerhuisrotterdam and the Rotterdam Library @bibliotheekrotterdam . Our play will be part of a cultural program offered to schools all around Rotterdam through @cultuuronderwijs010 . ✨
So we will be performing this one a lot more times.🥳

I couldn’t do it without my team of incredible women: theatre players @swendelinee and @annelieke_joosten , and @marjolijnmaakt with whom I created this play. 💜

This project fully grew from our dream of combining illustration and theatre. When I was working on it I was a little nervous as I was putting in a lot of energy and time without knowing it would be such a success. 😊 It showed me that when you are really passionate about something you’re creating, others will feel that too! It made me rethink my creative practice and opened doors to a lot of cool new projects and ideas.

Inspiration everywhere 🧡 During my stay in Kathmandu I focussed on creating artworks capturing local markets and shops selling various goods. Fruit, singing bowls, marigold flowers, ceramics and groceries. 🍋 They’re all based on sketches I made from observation throughout the city.

The first part of sketches from my artist residency in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal.🧡 @kala_yatra_artist_collective
I don’t think I’ve felt as inspired as I did when I was there, in a long time! I absolutely fell in love with this city and its colors, chaos, architecture and kindness.
The drawings are the base of a series of big artworks I made in the Kala Yatra studio, which I will share with you soon. 🍊

‘Ila en de dingen’ has been out in the Netherlands for a few days! Get your signed copy of my newest book with @enne_koens at the lovely Utrechtse Kinderboekenwinkel @kinderboekwinkelutrecht 🧡 They made a beautiful store front with the sun from the cover shining bright in the window and a big poster inside the cute shop. We already got a very nice review in @devolkskrant this weekend! @pjotrvanlenteren wrote about the illustrations that they look like ‘enviable color sketches of idyllic camping spots’. 🌞 A perfect book for the last weeks of summer, to read when you’re on holiday or when you want to hold onto that summery feeling a little longer. 🫶 Published by @lskindenjeugd

Will I SEA you tomorrow for an arts and theatre workshop at the Central Library in The Hague? As part of the @haagsverhaal festival you can create your own magical underwater creature and explore how it moves and sounds in the Noordzee stage I made especially for this day! 💙 Maybe you can make a gelato jellyfish, a swirly water dragon or a turtle ship? Or something completely different? It’s for free! For kids from age 6+🪼The first round starts at 12:30 and the second round at 15:00.
