One year of building Within.

When I started Within, I didn’t know exactly what it would evolve into.

I just knew the inner work I’d done to recover from founder burnout was something I felt deeply called to share—and to use in supporting other founders on their paths.

If I’m honest, it’s felt scary at times—unfolding a new career and version of myself while building a business around it.

But wow, has it been worth it.

This first year of coaching founders has been enlightening, energizing and deeply moving.

I seen firsthand how doing the inner work IS the key to unlocking sustainable, aligned outer success.

I’ve seen how core wounds, limiting beliefs and unhealed nervous systems can keep founders from tapping into the innate creativity, resourcefulness and wisdom that already exists WITHIN them.

The very qualities that can guide them through the uncertainty, setbacks and brave decisions that entrepreneurship demands.

This year, I’ve learned so much about how I can help founders uncover and trust that deeper presence in the context of running their companies.

Many founders have come to me with a specific outcome in mind

- Completing a fundraise or sale
- Growing while decreasing the company’s reliance on them
- Building a values-aligned culture
- Showing up more assertively in business relationships

And what they’ve found is that the blocks and healing we’ve addressed in order to unlock those results, has pervasively, positively impacted their lives in ways they hadn’t fully imagined.

They experience more ease. More clarity. More self-confidence.

Not only in their companies, but in their inner worlds, relationships, and broader lives.

What a privilege this has been to witness and facilitate.

I’m deeply grateful for the clarity year one has given me—and excited to see how year two unfolds.

The achiever archetype — the drive to prove your worth through what you accomplish — is something I see very often in founders.

There are many reasons why us founders decide to embark on a journey that is so difficult, long, and with low probability of success...

Some of those reasons might be:

✔️ We’ve experienced the problem we’re solving and believe it should exist in the world
✔️ We’re natural builders, creators and innovators
✔️ We want to have a positive impact on the world, our team, and our customers
✔️ We want the agency and flexibility that can be afforded by an ensubstackurial life
✔️ We’re basically unemployable. Having bosses, being told what to do, the politics - it just doesn’t work for us

But one of the shadow reasons many of us founders (myself included) decided to do the really hard thing that is starting a company...

Is to prove that we are enough, that we are valuable, that we are worthy of respect and recognition for doing this impossibly hard but worthwhile thing.

So what is the achiever archetype? And why are we like this?!

It’s been a few months since I’ve written a newsletter.

I’ve been navigating chronic fatigue for the last six months, which has meant scaling back my work. (And you better bet my inner achiever has absolutely hated that).

One of the things I’ve genuinely missed most has been writing and there’s something else I felt very inspired to write to you about today.

It’s called the Achievement → Expression Shift, and it’s something I’m going through right now.

🍂 Join me and Cristina @playbig.careers for an intimate women’s retreat in upstate New York!

Three days to slow down long enough to see what you’ve been carrying, feel what you’ve been too busy to feel, and reconnect with the woman underneath all the managing and performing.

You can expect:
🫂 Facilitated group work on the patterns running in the background
🧘🏼‍♀️ Movement and somatic practices
🌿 Embodied ritual, time in nature, nourishing meals made by a private chef
👩‍💻 A 1:1 integration coaching call one month after

We already have some remarkable women joining: founders, leaders in tech, mothers running their own business, women in transition, all at a point where they know something needs to shift but haven’t had the space to figure out what.

2 spots remain.

And by “this” I mean becoming one with nature, deepening trust in the universe and transforming into a new version of me.

To me butterflies are the most potent symbols of transformation and trust.

I mean can you imagine? One day you’re a caterpillar, then you enter the cocoon where you literally completely liquidate - you’re bug soup - and then all your cells rearrange and reconstitute into a butterfly.

You pull yourself out of your cocoon, and having only previously been a creature on many, many legs, you blindly trust that as you take a step off the twig and open your wings that you will fly.

And then you do. And you enjoy a more magical way of being in the world than you could ever had previously imagined or dreamed of, flitting from flower to flower unhurriedly, soaking up their sweetness, unapologetically showing off your beautiful colorful wings.

Hoping and trusting that’s what’s on the other side for me too. 💚🌿🦋 taken in Catskills Mountains, NY by @roslynmclarty

Our second Hot Girls Know Hormones brought a room full of women to New York City for a real conversation on stress management, with executive coach and founder of Within, Roslyn McLarty. We got into the kind of stress that lives in your body, why it shows up in your cycle, your sleep, and your mood, and what actually helps when the advice you have been given stops working.

No “just breathe” advice. Just practical tips you can use the next time your nervous system is running the show.

This is what we built Pinkmatter for.

Follow along and join us for the next one.

Thank you @roslynmclarty for being our hot girl expert and @vitalproteins for being our beverage partner.

I’ve been thinking about how to share this happy personal milestone of buying a home upstate with @callumng ! 🥹🏡

I’m sitting with the awareness that social media has a way of making you feel less than when you see posts like this - the highlight reels of others: homes, weddings, launches, vacations - and compare them to your real life.

You can be genuinely happy for someone, even inspired. But it can also stir up jealousy, or make you doubt yourself, your achievements, your timeline (speaking from experience!).

So I’m trying to share this in a way that’s real and hopefully helpful. Because honestly, having expanders for soul-aligned home purchases is part of what got me here.

I had very few material things on my manifestation list this year. Most were about aligning with dharma, releasing old patterns, more love.

But a home in the country was one tangible thing I wanted to call in.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from @tobemagnetic is that when you align your manifestations to who you really are and what you desire from a deep place, they become the most resonant and fulfilling.

With this house, it was never just about the physical house. It was about a safe haven for our nervous systems to regulate, a place to create, to host friends and community, where our love and family could grow, a sanctuary for founders one day, a place to return to myself.

Because what we were calling in was so aligned, the process was smooth (unlike our first attempt on Long Island, which fell through).

When we pivoted upstate, this house fell into place with near immediacy. I got a feeling the moment I saw the listing - “oh, there’s something about this one.”

It was the last stop on our itinerary that first weekend, and even on the drive over, Callum and I felt an opening, a feeling of love.

Stepping inside was a full body yes for both of us. Not logical - just a felt knowing that we were connected to the place. An old camp lodge from the 60s, we could feel the energy of the children dancing inside.

And when we moved in last weekend, it felt like home. 🌳

If you’re calling something in, my hope is that this offers a little expansion to you too. 🩵 taken in The Catskills, New York by @roslynmclarty

Burnout doesn’t always show up as exhaustion.

Sometimes it shows up as irritability. Disconnection. A lack of excitement for something you once loved. If you’ve been telling yourself “it’s just a busy season,” this might be the check-in you didn’t know you needed. by @roslynmclarty
