Glasgow, Scotland // A night at the @achotelmarriottglasgow to experience the Liberty Suite, certainly one of the city’s most extravagant hotel rooms that I have experienced. Set across a huge floor space, divided into three areas, with bedrooms leading off either side.

The hotel includes a cool library space, with low back sofas and fire, a cocktail bar; make sure you order a spicy margarita pre dinner then head through to Hazel, the hotel’s restaurant which includes a full sized hazel tree, a tribute to Glasgow’s coat of arms

Postcard from Barcelona, Spain // A summertime stay at @wbarcelona to see phase one of the multi-million renovation programme that began in October 2025 and is programmed to run until 2027, with the redesign of guest rooms and suites between the seventh and twenty-fifth floors now completed, by New York studio @rockwellgroup.

I stayed in Room 1907, a Premier Sky Room on the 19th floor, the signature W gloss and mood lighting the brand is known for has given way completely to subtle grown up interiors of sand and cream with tactile bouclé fabrics and bright pops of colour in across the bathroom and surfaces.

I can’t wait to see how the complete renovation develops. taken in W Barcelona by @rossfraser_

Tuscany’s celebrated eco-estate now has a city address, as @borgopignanofi opens its doors on the northern slopes of Montughi Hill, just 1km from Piazza della Libertà.

The sister property to Borgo Pignano Volterra sits within a restored 15th-century villa, with five acres of gardens, the largest of any hotel in Florence.

32 individually designed rooms and suites are spread across 11 historic buildings, restored by British designer Guy Oliver, whose portfolio includes Claridge’s, The Connaught and 10 Downing Street.

Chef Stefano Cavallini, who holds a Michelin Green Star at Volterra, leads the kitchen across two restaurants and two bars, using organic produce from the countryside estate.

Outside, cypress avenues and olive terraces lead down to a 30-metre heated pool, one of the largest in the city. by @rossfraser_

Cascais, Portugal // A stay at @kimptonquintadamarinha, a property with a long-standing histoty within the Portuguese golf coast, begun a new chapter in July, reopening as the Kimpton Quinta da Marinha Cascais, following a top-to-bottom refurbishment along with bringing it into the Kimpton hotel portfolio.

I stayed in Room 240, an Essential Room with a pool view, ceiling papered edge to edge in monstera leaves, part of @goddard.littlefair’s interior transformation that provides a residential format thought-out.

Dinner was at Ao Ponto, the hotel’s Portuguese grill, where chorizo arrives flaming table-side in a terracotta assador, followed by charcoal-grilled cod and aged entrecôte carved and served in its pan, closing off the dinner with pastéis de nata as good as any I’ve had in Belém.

Down at FICA! Bar, Social Hour runs into sunset on the pool terrace, while an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Sr. course and the Natur Spa round out one of the most complete resort stays within easy reach of Lisbon. taken in Kimpton Quinta da Marinha Cascais by @rossfraser_

Barcelona, Spain // A stay at @alexandrabarcelonahotel, the boutique design hotel and part of the @curiocollection, one corner off Passeig de Gràcia and two blocks from Casa Batlló. The building is over a century old and the interiors, by @borrelljover Arquitectura, set original Catalan hydraulic floor interiors against midcentury styling.

I stayed in Room 118, a King Junior Suite, the bed floating mid-room with the bathroom split behind it, while French doors open onto a Juliet balcony looking out over the street below.

Dinner is at @restaurantesolomillo, Enrique Valentí’s first-floor steakhouse, where you pick your beef by breed, then weight and cut. While downstairs, whole Jabugo hams hang above a black marble bar.

But the hotel’s best-kept secret sits up a floor at the back: a courtyard pool long enough for laps, shaded loungers and a slatted steel canopy bar and patio area. In this city centre postcode that’s a rate find! taken in Alexandra Barcelona Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton by @rossfraser_

@hotellemagnifique has opened on Rue de la Gaîté in Paris’s 14th arrondissement, a new hotel from Jacques Blanc, the restaurateur and hotelier behind Hôtel Bellechasse, with interiors by Vincent Darré.

The building started life in the early 19th century as Les Mille Colonnes, one of the street’s best-known theatres. The entrance hall keeps the old columns, hand-painted as a nod to La Coupole, and the staircase railings are shaped like musical scores. The bar, Le Picabia, is wood-panelled with a grand piano, displays showtimes from the neighbouring theatres and rings a bell at curtain up and the end of each interval.

Beyond reception, there’s a swimming pool lined with mythological mosaics, and a glass lift painted with mermaids serves five themed floors, from the Garden of Eden to the deep sea and the Milky Way. Every room is different, and everything in them, from the furniture to the wall fabrics and ceramics, is an original Darré design.

El Born, Barcelona // Beneath the Porxos de Fontseré arches, we experienced Volta at @hotelborneta, the restaurant borrowing its name from those very vaults and from voltar, the Catalan notion of wandering at an easy pace. We meandered gently through the evening, starting with a drink on the roof terrace, then came down for dinner.

Executive Chef Andrea De Benedictis cooks a Western Mediterranean menu over open flame, drawing upon his Italian background together with Barcelona’s produce, creating heartfelt dishes ideal for sharing. We had some aperitivos at the bar, a board of cheese and cured meats and the Volta parmigiana with aubergine cream, confit tomato mayo and pesto, then moved to the restaurant for a handmade pasta and ravioli before a slow-cooked Girona roast beef.

This @miirohotels is elegant and relaxed; a live DJ plays low background tunes, and locals relax with drinks, their dachshunds tucked under the table. This is the best vibe in El Born. taken in Borneta by @rossfraser_

Aman is coming to South Korea for the first time, with Aman Seoul confirmed for Cheongdam in the heart of Gangnam, adding to the brand’s growing collection of city hotels alongside Tokyo, New York and Bangkok.

Sitting in one of Seoul’s most exclusive districts, Cheongdam is the centre of the city’s luxury shopping, design and cultural scene, and the site overlooks the Han River. The tower will rise 38 floors above ground with a further eight below, spanning around 70,000 square metres and combining a hotel, 49 branded residences, retail and cultural spaces, spa and wellness facilities and Aman dining concepts. There will also be a private members’ club with its own swimming pool, fitness centre and lounge. The hotel is due to open 2029.

Barcelona, Spain // A long lunch at The Barcelona EDITION’s Veraz restaurant for a five-course tasting menu created in collaboration with chef @alvarosalazarchef, the two-Michelin-starred talent behind @vorobyalvarosalazar.

The menu, a retrospective, each course dated to trace his career, opening with a 2021 Atún³ amuse-bouche paired with an Inedit beer, then Iberian pork ravioli with an emulsified mushroom toffee, a red mullet caldereta and grilled glazed beef with beetroot. Dessert a vanilla torrija with noisette butter and closing with a petit four of chocolate, tonka bean and burnt milk.

Finishing up the afternoon on the hotel’s 10th floor rooftop, where its pool, bar and restaurant overlook views across the city’s Barrio del Born.

Nobu Hotel Madrid has opened its doors, bringing the brand’s world-famous dining to the Spanish capital for the first time and marking its fifth property in Spain.

Sitting in the Las Cortes district between Plaza de Cibeles and Puerta del Sol, guests are within walking distance of the Prado and Retiro. The building was formerly a bank, and the hotel has made good use of that history; the cocktail bar on the lower ground floor is built into the original vault, thick walls and safety deposit boxes still in place.

Above it, Nobu restaurant covers three levels with interiors by GRONDA, bronze-toned ceilings, dark stone floors and timber panelling, serving classics like Black Cod Miso and Yellowtail Jalapeño alongside dishes using local ingredients such as Canarian sea bass and Mediterranean tuna.

On the seventh floor, The Rooftop looks out across the Madrid skyline and serves aperitivo-style cocktails with sharing plates.

The 50 rooms and suites are by Tomás Alía of Studio Caramba, finished in warm wood tones, organic textiles and deep green accents, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the city. The signature Nobu Suite sits on the top floor with 105 sum of living space and its own private terrace.

Perthshire, Scotland // Memories from @pinetreeshotel, set within 10 acres of woodland on the edge of Pitlochry. Interiors perfectly showcase ‘coorie living’, Scotland’s answer to hygge, from the boot room stocked with wellies and raincoats to the Scottish grazing larders replenished daily with treats. Original features have been lovingly restored throughout, with the marble staircase, cornicing and stained glass set against navy Victorian panelling, herringbone floors and a curated mix of mid-century and vintage furniture.

I stayed in Room 40 (named Grey Wagtail) in Heatherbank House, a 36 sqm space with a king-sized bed floating mid-room behind a half-height panelled wall, muted orange velvet sofas and French doors opening onto a private terrace. In the bathroom a freestanding tub and a walk-in rain shower.

Dinner at Fauna is farm-to-fork at its finest and Flora Bar is where the evening lingers, curved armchairs cocooned around marble-topped tables, and slick cocktails. by @rossfraser_

The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is now taking bookings for stays from 20 December.

The hotel sits on the Chao Phraya River in Bang Rak, built around the original 1888 Custom House. The building dates back to King Rama V and was once Thailand’s gateway to the world. It’s being fully restored and will reopen as a public space, with restaurants and bars to be announced.

Guest accommodation will be in a new building next door to the original building with 60 rooms and 15 suites, designed by Thai architect Smith Obayawat. He calls Custom House “the grandfather” and the new building “the grandson”.

Rooms look out over the courtyards, the skyline or the river, and the suites are exceptional with design details taken from Thai temples and the royal era. There’s also a Chuan Spa, a Technogym Sandstone gym (the first in Asia), and a Bangkok outpost of T’ang Court, the three-Michelin-starred restaurant from Hong Kong.

It’s a short hop from ICONSIAM, Chinatown and Charoen Krung, and the hotel runs private river boats and Bentley transfers. taken in Bangkok, Thailand by @rossfraser_
