This is my first month as part of @the.artists.collab,a group of artists dedicated to community, intention, and creativity. This month we studied Hannah Höch, the groundbreaking German photomontage artist.

Starting the month, I was feeling a little uncomfortable and intimidated by the idea of photomontage or collage, as it was something I’ve not really done in any real capacity, but in reading through the materials and listening to the podcast and other members discuss Höch’s work and approach, I started to make parallels with how I write and produce music, which includes a lot of recycling of my own material, a lot of textural collage, taking pieces of a sound or melody and completely reshaping it into something else, and I decided to approach the project with that mindset. I took a roll of self portraits on 35mm HP5+, developed them and had Walgreens print up some cheap 8x10s. I had a very different initial vision. I was planning on cutting up a couple of the photos and reconstructing the portrait with a combination of the photo scraps, fine liner pens and alcohol ink markers, but it really didn’t work the way I saw it in my head. Following the thread of self deconstruction/reconstruction, I ended up slicing up some of my unsold records and tapes and combining them with the self portraits to get this. by @rossmakesrecords

Had a lovely walk around Marfa this morning and took my time on the drive home. These are my favorites from my digital camera and I shot a roll and a half or so of half frame that I need to develop. Great little road show road trip. I’ve missed playing Austin and I’ve missed playing new places. Fingers crossed I can do more of both in the near future. Developed a roll from my half frame camera and there are some nice shots here, especially of @miaantifa recording in our living room. Would be super cool if IG let you post mixed aspect ratios on the same post because some of the nice shots work as diptychs and some work best on their own. Oh well. by @rossmakesrecords

Our 11yo and I went halfsies on a button maker so she could make Warriors cat buttons and I can make merch. Each button is hand colored with alcohol markers. I’ll probably make some variants too, because everyone loves color variants. Buy one at a show or I’ll toss one in if you buy a record through Bandcamp. by @rossmakesrecords
