Last Friday, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was proud to participate in Reimagine Manufacturing 2026, an event that brought together leaders from industry, higher education and economic development to explore the future of manufacturing.

Rowan Engineering's Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Institute (AMMI) and Digital Engineering Hub (DEHub) hosted exhibitor booths, showcasing the college's research capabilities and connecting with manufacturers, industry partners and fellow innovators.

Also in attendance were Dr. Giuseppe Palmese, dean of Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering; Dr. Joseph F. Stanzione, III, director of AMMI; and Dr. Antonios Kontsos, director of DEHub.

Events like these highlight the important role universities play in advancing manufacturing innovation, strengthening industry partnerships and preparing the next generation of engineers.

✨ Meet our Student of the Week, Aaron Pulman! 🦉

Aaron is the first of many students we’ll be highlighting in our Student of the Week series, where we get to know our engineering students both inside and outside of the classroom! 👨‍💻⚡

As a sophomore majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Aaron is passionate about using technology to make a difference. Originally pursuing Biomedical Engineering with a goal of working with prosthetics, he discovered a passion for programming and electrical engineering. His dream? To work with assistive robotics and help those in need! 🤖❤️‍🩹

Outside of the classroom, Aaron enjoys photography, working out, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends. 📸📚 He’s also a talented photographer who captures everything from events and sports to couples and brands!

When asked what superpower he would choose, Aaron said he’d want the ability to heal others because being able to help people when they need it most would be incredibly meaningful to him. 💫

His advice to fellow engineering students? Never give up! He believes that if you keep pursuing your goals, everything will eventually fall into place. 🙌

Rowan Engineering Alumni Spotlight: Lisa Firth-Lapinski ’02

From taking things apart as a kid to helping ensure Navy ships are ready for aviation operations, Lisa Firth-Lapinski has built an impressive career in engineering!

A 2002 mechanical engineering graduate, Lisa has spent her career working with the U.S. Navy, specializing in aviation systems and shipboard facility certification.

Lisa credits her Rowan Engineering experience, particularly her Engineering Clinic projects with Dr. John Chen, with helping prepare her for a career she never expected.

One of the most valuable lessons she took from Rowan? Persistence.

Today, Lisa and her husband, also a Rowan Engineering graduate, are giving back by funding scholarships for future engineering students. Both were recipients of scholarships made possible by Henry Rowan's historic gift, and they are proud to carry that generosity forward.

Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your story and continuing to make a difference for the next generation of Rowan engineers!

The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering's Center for Research & Education in Advanced Transportation Engineering Systems (CREATES) is continuing its partnership with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for another five years!

Led by Yusuf Mehta, Ph.D., and Ayman Ali, Ph.D., CREATES has completed more than 50 research projects over the past five years, helping develop sustainable pavement materials, improve roadway performance and advance transportation infrastructure across New Jersey.

We're proud of the CREATES team and the real-world impact of their research, which also provides valuable hands-on experiences for our engineering students.

Jun Hee Jang, Ph.D., an assistant professor of chemical engineering in the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, received a $199,999 grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation to study a sustainable and cost-effective process for converting biomass into jet fuel.

The grant was awarded through NSF's Engineering Research Initiation (ERI) program, which supports engineering faculty at emerging research institutions as they establish independent research programs.
