We had a wonderful time at our AGM, which we held at @samsmarinescience!

This event was the first opportunity for our new cohort of members to come together in person. It was a joy to finally meet them all, especially after reading their inspiring and impressive membership applications.

As part of our 2-day meeting, SAMS told us about the vital work they’re doing to generate and promote knowledge about Scotland’s marine environment and communities. Thank you so much to the many SAMS researchers who gave their time to talk to us.

Importantly, the AGM was an opportunity to hear updates from the YAS members leading our ongoing projects, and pitches for new project ideas. We can’t wait to see some of these incredible ideas come to life.

Yesterday, we welcomed Irish President, Catherine Connolly to the RSE Fellowship.

Catherine Connolly has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the highest honour it can bestow.

She said: “It is a privilege to receive this Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Society of Edinburgh and to have the opportunity of meeting with some of those working in such a wide range of disciplines for the public good.

“I particularly welcome the work that is being undertaken between researchers in Ireland and Scotland which will help inform public policy in both countries.”

Following President Connolly’s formal acceptance of her Honorary Fellowship, Professor Jemina Napier and Lucy Clark presented their research into domestic abuse of deaf women – one of the research projects that was a direct result of the Ireland-Scotland Bilateral Partnership. A roundtable discussion about deepening links and renewing the partnership then followed.

Welcome to the Fellowship, President Connolly. 🇮🇪 by @royalsoced
