October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Australian women, with around 1 in 7 diagnosed in their lifetime. Yet five-year survival now sits above 90 per cent, a result built on decades of research, improved screening and more targeted treatments.
Victoria has played a major part in that story. Our research institutes, hospitals and universities continue to lead work in genetics, immunotherapy and early detection that reaches patients around the world.
At the Royal Society of Victoria, we champion the science that improves lives. This month, we acknowledge everyone affected by breast cancer, and the researchers, clinicians and support workers whose work keeps shifting what’s possible. by @royalsocietyvic

🌏 Climate change doesn’t always arrive with a bang.
Much of it creeps in slowly, and Victoria’s bushland and coastlines are changing in ways that are easy to miss.
Our latest issue of Science Victoria magazine digs into this “climate change creep,” and on Thursday 5 November we’re hosting a panel with some of the authors behind it. Come along for an evening of conversation, questions and light refreshments. Speakers will be announced soon!
📅 Thu 5 November, 6pm to 8pm
📍 The Royal Society of Victoria, 8 La Trobe St, Melbourne
Heads up: our building is historic and has stair-only access. Questions? Email rsv@rsv.org.au.
