Some excerpts from our September 21 performance. (Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok by Dmitri Shostakovich Op. 127)

This was incredibly challenging music, and I’m so grateful we had the opportunity to bring it to life.

Those who teach and perform know how complicated that balance can be. When so much of your time and energy goes into teaching, you’re not always in “performer shape”—simply because you don’t get to perform as often as you once did.

This was our first time performing this extraordinary piece, and I truly hope it won’t be our last. There is so much more to discover in this music, and I would love the opportunity to return to it again.

I will be performing J. S. Bach’s Wedding Cantata with the Starkville–MSU Symphony Orchestra.

I love Baroque music, and although Bach is always challenging, I am having so much fun singing this beautiful music!

Yesterday was a very special day—the memorial for Dr. Gary Packwood. So many people gathered together because of one remarkable person and the impact he had on all of our lives.

My mind still cannot quite comprehend that he is no longer with us, but I know he was watching from heaven, so proud of his students as they sang their hearts out for him.

It was a sad yet joyful day—a day filled with memories, music, love, and gratitude. It was also so wonderful to see some of my former students, now grown adults with careers and families of their own. They were among my very first students at MSU, and as teachers, we know that the first group of students always holds a very special place in our hearts.

What an amazing person Dr. Packwood was, and what a beautiful legacy he left behind. by @rozatulyag

I didn’t expect to be this captivated tonight—my husband basically dragged me to this concert. 😄 This isn’t usually my genre, but wow… I was completely blown away.

The mastery. The musicianship. Guthrie Govan’s effortless, almost mischievous humor woven through every phrase of his guitar playing, as if the instrument itself were laughing. Borlai doesn’t just play the drums—he coaxes them into singing, every hit resonating with precision and fire. Davidyants holds the bass like a steady pulse at the center of it all, playing with such fluid ease it feels like gravity itself is bending around him. Yet what impressed me most was that no one was trying to outshine anyone else. It was pure musical symbiosis—three extraordinary musicians listening, responding in real time, and building something far greater than the sum of its parts.

Musicians from different countries, different backgrounds, coming together to create something that truly unites people. What a beautiful reminder of what music can do.
