Had a great time in the biennial Bristol Artist’s Book Event (BABE) with Phoebe (@kei.wing._.hui) ! It was very warm in Bristol ☀️ Exhibitors and visitors were fanning while exploring many high-quality publications, zines and hand-made objects presented.

I was glad to be part of Aoi._bird Collective (@aoi._bird.collective), bringing with me 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 日凡細絲 and a few origami mini leaf envelopes.

The best part of BABE was undoubtedly to converse with fellow exhibitors from different parts of the world. I was thrilled to learn about diverse ways of publishing as well. Thank you Bristol 💕

摺紙令我連結當下,再度流動;

🌸 launch 🍊

𝙙𝙞𝙢 𝙙𝙞𝙢 𝙜𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙨 is finally opened !

I encountered origami for the first time when I was creating the paper lotus works for POST-MORTEM — the joint exhibition in Osage Gallery almost two years ago. After moving to Germany, I had much free time. While searching for jobs, my interest in learning origami came alive.

When I fold, I connect with the present moment. My inner world flows again. Origamiing is a profound remedy to different pressures in daily life.

𓆩 dim dim 𓆪 is a little tiger plush, a gift from one of my family members. Looking at dim dim, I remember that it is happy to come into being on Earth. This year, my deep wish is to share moments that I was touched, uplifted and elevated through handmade origami gifts.

ℕ𝕠 𝕕𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕞 𝕚𝕤 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣 𝕥𝕠𝕠 𝕤𝕞𝕒𝕝𝕝.

Thank you for witnessing the realisation of my big dream.
May we all have the strength and resilience to align with our lives.

Installation view of 𝙈𝙖𝙮 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙮 in Centrespace Gallery @centrespacegallery . Three days more to experience the work alongside prints and paintings from fellow artists!

p.s. simply fascinated by how the work is sitting comfortably by the window, much like one of my previous works 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬-𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘦, which was resting on a window in Groningen (early Spring, 2022)

Folded paper boxes and seeds
Boxes: ~ 18 x 18 x 9 cm each
Seeds (168 pieces): ~ 7 x 2.5 cm each

𝙈𝙖𝙮 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙮 is a work in remembrance of the 168 departed spirits in the blaze which happened in Hong Kong on 26th November 2025. The handmade box holds folded paper seeds that resemble the form of 𝘈𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘣ä𝘶𝘮𝘦 (maple trees) seeds that fell on the balcony of my living space in Stuttgart. Before folding, I wrote the ‘Om Asatoma’ mantra on each paper three times. Pavamana mantra is often chanted in times of transitions with the wish to go from untruth to truth, darkness to light and death to eternity. In a world of frequenting natural and man-made disaster, may we find a moment of peace in our hearts.

Lotus origami, printed images on transparent paper
A set of four, 14.5 cm x 14.5 cm each
2026

This work is part of an ongoing series to call on collective healing on Wang Fuk Court Fire which took place in Hong Kong on 26th November 2025. Hong Kong is my hometown and the blaze happened shortly after I have emigrated to Germany — It stroke me that I have already left my place of birth. To be away from home while Hongkongers were mourning prompted me to contemplate on ways in which art practice could bring trauma into relief across geographical distances.

Lotus is a symbol of purity and rebirth. Through folding and unfolding the lotuses, I made and smoothed out creases on the paper. Each of the four printed images were elicited from video
episodes dedicated to the fire, including news reports and interviews.

While making and unmaking the origami, the images became distorted with faded ink. Afterimages of the man-made disaster were thereby obscured and turned into a form attempting to bring about resilience.

Introducing our Exhibiting Artist — 𝑅𝑜𝓈𝑒 𝐿𝒾

Rose Li works with what remains: ruined spaces, afterimage of traumatic events and empty stages. She is intrigued by the fluidity in demountable structures and the fragility of tangible things. Her practice questions the definity of ideas, often by the way of performance with iterative repetition. She looks into the traditions of 𝘑𝘺𝘶𝘵 𝘒𝘦𝘬 (Cantonese Opera) through contemporary lenses alongside her art practice. At present, she is residing in Stuttgart, Germany.
