WHO GETS TO DECIDE NATURE’S WORTH?

A government? A company? The people who live there? Or does a forest have a claim of its own?

We’re teaming up with @latinamericabureau to unpack some of the big questions from Jan Schulz’s new book, Disputed Territories, and see where they take us across Western Amazonia!

We begin in Los Cedros, Ecuador, where a fight over mining became a much bigger question about nature + rights.

Curious to go deeper? Disputed Territories is available to pre-order now via @latinamericabureau 🌎 by @rubi.group

○ THE SIGNAL — Following the shifts + questions showing up across the sectors we work in.

Some objects just belong to a city.

For New York, it’s the blue-and-white diner cup. Designed for the city’s Greek-owned coffee shops in the 1960s, the Anthora went from something you’d grab with your morning coffee to a piece of New York pop culture.

Our next AMÉRICAS, BY THE CUP takes on a classic. taken in New York City by @rubi.group

THE SIGNAL, our newest rubi series.

A place for the trends + shifts moving through the sectors we know best.

We’re opening with AI + language, and the growing gap between speaking to a technology and actually being understood by it.

THE WATCHLIST
📍 NEW YORK

Between running around the city for events with @theclimategroup, our convos this week have come back to media, climate, and who gets to shape THE story.

It got us thinking about the New York newsrooms keeping a close eye on the region: @amerquarterly, @latinousa, and @latinometrics. taken in New York City by @rubi.group

RUBI TAKES NYC 🗽

This September, rubi is in New York.

We spend a lot of our time moving across the Americas, and this month brings us north for 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗡𝗬𝗖— supporting our clients + following the conversations shaping our work + spending some time with the people we usually see through a screen.

We’ll be here all month. In NYC? Come sip on some diner coffee with us!!! taken in New York City by @rubi.group

What does the Amazon have to do with U.S. tariffs?

Turns out, quite a bit. In Q2, deforestation made its way into the trade argument between Brazil and the U.S., taking the Amazon into a whole new kind of international conversation.

We spend a lot of our time talking + thinking about the Americas, which got us wondering: what are the questions we just can’t get out of our heads?

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗦 is where we put them. A new rubi series looking at the ideas, tensions and shifts shaping the region, one question at a time. by @rubi.group

We’re officially in the last few weeks of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, so we’re paying homage to one of the season’s true stars in today's edition of 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘: the mango.

Backyard trees, bags passed between neighbors, juice everywhere. Especially in our home city of Miami, summer just doesn’t feel the same without it.

Miami is where rubi began, and a city that has shaped how we think about the Americas from the start. Spanish and English, north + south, cafecito at the ventanita.

For our next 𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗦, 𝗕𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗨𝗣, the series where we look at the region through one of its favorite rituals (coffee!!), we’re coming home!!! taken in Miami, Florida by @rubi.group
