Last week, something shifted.

A moment I had quietly worked toward for nearly two years came to life. In a room where vision met history, I stood not just as a delegate, but as someone who had lived the journey from the inside out.

During His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s State Visit to the Netherlands, we marked the signing of the world’s first commercial-scale liquid hydrogen corridor. A groundbreaking agreement connecting Duqm to Amsterdam and beyond. It lays the foundation for future-ready energy and deepens global cooperation on climate action.

To speak with Their Majesties, to feel seen in a space I once only dreamed of, was a reckoning. The kind that dissolves the doubts, the late nights, the noise. What remained was purpose. And pride.

This wasn’t just a professional milestone. It was a return.
To self.
To story.
To Oman.

Somewhere between São Paulo’s restless streets and Rio’s mountains falling into the sea, this trip became exactly the pause I didn’t know I needed.

Maybe that is what certain places give us: not answers, but space. Enough space for curiosity to return, for beauty to become noticeable again, for the noise to recede. We leave thinking we went somewhere new, only to discover that something in us moved too.

A new chapter! Earlier this month, I took my seat for the first time on the Foundation Board of the @worldeconomicforum’s Global Shapers Community, following an invitation from @profklausschwab that I accepted with immense gratitude.

14 years ago, I joined the @muscatshapers, only months after the @globalshaperscommunity itself had been established. I could never have imagined then how much this community would shape me, the rooms it would take me into, or the confidence it would give me to be a twenty-something and speak anyway.

So there was something incredibly special about sitting with Professor Schwab in Geneva years later, this time as a member of the Foundation Board of the community he founded.

Very grateful for this one ♥️ taken in Geneva Switzerland by @rummoya

The khareef is greening the Dhofar mountains right now, the season when it is easiest to see what is at stake. Our @esooman delegation met with His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of @dhofar_gov, to explore how far a partnership built around this extraordinary corner of Oman could go.

There is nowhere else in the country quite like it. Frankincense trees still hold in the wadis, the mist rolls in off the Arabian Sea, and offshore swim the only humpback whales on the planet that never migrate. So much of Oman’s living heritage is gathered in one governorate, which is exactly why its protection cannot wait.

We talked about building on our long history of work in Dhofar to contribute more closely alongside the Governorate, local communities, researchers, and the youth. Thank you to His Highness and his office for the warmth and the clarity of the conversation. What we do with it from here is the part that counts.

How do we grow tourism without degrading the nature and heritage people come here to experience? This question sat at the center of our latest #OmanClimateDialogues, and it has stayed with me since.

Tourism rests on the places that make Oman distinctive, our coastlines and reefs, our wadis and mountains, our oasis towns and the communities who hold them together. The labels we attach, eco-tourism, sustainable, regenerative, matter less than whether tourism is genuinely managed, measured and delivered. Walking visitors through a reef or a turtle beach carries weight only alongside real standards, trained operators and monitoring.

The harder truth surfaced when one of Oman’s oldest oasis communities chose to cut down a 500-year-old tree for a fountain. Communities hold real agency over what they keep and what they let go, and I am not sure we have reckoned with what that asks of how we grow.

I spent less than 48 hours in #Amsterdam this week, a trip so brief the flight crew recognized me on the way back. Those two flights framed a day I was grateful to spend hosting the #H2ASymposium, carrying a room through conversations on #hydrogen, the energy transition, and the distance between ambition and implementation.

The question I carried home was whether we can learn something from the movement that made plastic bag bans possible.

Before regulation became the visible part, there had to be shift in public consciousness. There had to be coalitions, pressure, retailers willing to move, communities willing to change behavior, and enough small signals to make the larger shift feel inevitable.

The energy transition is, of course, a far more complex market. Yet the question still feels useful: are we waiting too much for regulation to create the market, when part of the work may be to organize demand before certainty arrives?

We did not answer everything in Amsterdam, and perhaps that was never the point. Some rooms are valuable because they let the question sharpen. They allow people to disagree with enough trust to keep building from the disagreement.

I flew home tired, happy, and carrying better questions than the ones I arrived with. Maybe the best rooms leave you with a clearer sense of what is worth asking next. taken in Bimhuis by @rummoya

Rotterdam in May has a particular light, grey one hour and silver the next, and I spent most of this week indoors chasing molecules instead of weather. The World Hydrogen Summit is the one room each year where the entire industry gathers in the same place, and walking its floor you can feel how much has shifted in twelve months. Last year we were explaining what Oman intended to do. This year we were explaining what Oman is doing.

The days ran long and the conversations ran longer. Corridors and offtake, certification and demand, the unglamorous architecture of a new energy economy being argued out in meeting rooms while the coffee went cold. Somewhere between the formal sessions I had the privilege of speaking about the women building this industry from the inside, in our laboratories and in our young companies, and an engineer I worked with a decade ago, now a founder of her own. We have carried the story far in a short time, and I came home thinking less about what we have proven than about what is still left to write.

At the #NEXTMilan Forum, young leaders from more than 60 countries were asked whether green transition and #climate action should be a top global priority, or secondary to economic growth, especially in developing countries.

The majority chose climate action as a top global priority, and that is not a surprise. The ones who voted as secondary carried a concern many of us from the #GlobalSouth understand well: climate action cannot sound like asking countries to postpone development.

The deeper conversation is how this old framing is beginning to collapse. Renewable power, #resilience, energy #security, food systems, water security, jobs, and industrial competitiveness are increasingly becoming part of the same development story.

The question is no longer whether climate action and growth can sit together. The question is whether our institutions can catch up to the places where they already do.

I reflected on this further in my latest Oman Observer article, linked in my bio. taken in Milan,Italy by @rummoya
