It’s pretty routine for @micahshoemaker & I to start talking about the next Magic City season as soon as the current one ends (or even as it’s still going on lol)

But before we jump into 2027 planning, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for helping us accomplish what felt like an insane 2026 season.

-a MCG world tour where we spent time with different gyms in different states
-our 2nd qualifier
-3 live shows
-a CrossFit Masters Semifinal (still not over this!!)
- @magiccity.games year 5️⃣
- @run.magiccity year 1 with over 1400 runners (INSANE)

If you were involved in any capacity at any point; whether competing, volunteering, or just supporting from the sideline. We are so thankful for you🤍

2027, we can’t wait to see what you have in store!! (But first, let’s all take a vacation😉) by @run.magiccity

Magic City Games Hosts Inaugural Race
By Porter Moore III

Birmingham, Ala. — Magic City Games hosted its inaugural Magic City Run on Saturday, July 18, 2026, offering 5K, 10K and half marathon options through the heart of downtown Birmingham.

As a Birmingham native and volunteer, seeing this event and the diversity it brought out stirred a sense of nostalgia. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to grow. Fitness crazes have come and gone in this city, some more successful than others. Alabama consistently ranks among the nation’s top 10 for obesity, and Birmingham and Mobile both land on the list of the nation’s 10 most obese cities. Against that backdrop, it’s worth being thankful for the gem this city has to offer.

Anyone familiar with the CrossFit scene in Birmingham knows Magic City Games well. The organization also hosted a cycling event earlier this summer. But broadening their scope to hosting a race marked new territory. The event drew about 1,400 racers from near and far, setting the stage for more events in the near future.

The team behind Magic City Games clearly saw the fitness potential in Birmingham and partnered with local and national companies to bring the race to life, including Cahaba Cycle, Bolder Athlete, Hydra Alive, the City of Birmingham, No Days Off Water and Frog Grips. Thank you, Magic City Games, for continuing to pour into a city that also pulls out the best athletes in and around Birmingham. Thanks also to the Birmingham Police Department for their firm, supportive presence in ensuring runner safety stayed a priority throughout the race. #5k #10k #fitness #blog #halfmarathon @run.magiccity by @run.magiccity
