4th fittest at the Magic City Games

You’d think knocking on the podium door, I’d feel an underlying disappoint but all I feel is fulfillment.

This was my athlete photo when I checked in on Friday. It was the first time I cracked a real smile that week. Still sad in my eyes.

Going into this competition, I thought about all the highs I had last year and kept thinking … deeper field of qualified women— “what are the chances I could have anything like the performance I had last year?”

But after the tragedy and grief I was experiencing, my whole perspective changed. I was not attached to any outcome anymore. My heart broke open. In a way, I suddenly felt tuned into life’s fragility + it’s duality. I found myself really being present in the experience like I never have before while competing.

People’s families cheering from the sidelines, the dog who signed up to walk the race, the nerves of others in the corral.

Im proud of how I showed up. I put out good energy and I feel like it was returned back to me. I truly wanted to see others shine in their triumphant moments because I know how those can last a lifetime. This felt like a new kind of freedom.

To my surprise, my consistency landed me a better ranking than last year… and a bigger fondness for the city of Birmingham .. and the @magiccity.games

thank you 🙏🏼
