Hyped to have put my voice behind the Affordable College Now rally in Harrisburg today. We also got to meet with a few state legislators and the Batman [he was answering the Bat signal we put up asking for help with students in distress from overpriced college!

The silence of the ancient woods,
The whisper of the morning breeze,
Are echoes of the Living God
That move among the quiet trees.

The ocean roars with sovereign power,
The mountains peak in holy grace,
And every fragile, blooming flower
Reveals the beauty of His face.

He paints the canvas of the sky
With strokes of gold and crimson light,
Then folds the weary world to sleep
Beneath a starry, silent night.

No voice is heard, yet music flows
Through every river, hill, and stone
—A timeless song creation knows,
To praise the Maker on His throne. taken in Zindel Park by @run4lhu

Over the last couple years, we have found ourselves hearing the twin towers and 9/11 used in a joking sort of manner by a generation that doesn't understand the trauma the day brought to the lives of those old enough to have experienced it. When we heard our youngest come home from school making jokes that he had picked up from other kids at school, we decided it was time to take him to see for himself.

In early August, we made the trip to New York City and were able to do a guided tour of the memorial and ground zero areas before taking in the 9/11 Memorial Museum. His silence spoke volumes, and at no point did he want to leave my side. I told stories and explained things and he listened carefully. I know he was uncomfortable, but I also know I have not heard one joke or inappropriate comment about it since.

As today approached, I mentioned what anniversary it was, and he just gave me a sad look. Even though he did not live through the experience, I know that now he too remembers and was reflecting and was sad. I believe it is the duty of everyone in our generation to make sure that those around us understand the significance, fear, heroism, and togetherness that 9/11 entailed. We must honor, remember and learn from that tragic day twenty five years ago.

It was especially moving to make the trip with my brother and sister in law. My brother in law lost his cousin, Alan Linton, when the towers came down and it was his first trip to the memorial and Museum. We were also able to locate and pay tribute to Debra Gibbon, the mother of one of our soccer players at Lock Haven years ago.

It was a crisp, brought blue-sky day, just as it was 25 years ago. The silence, along with the feeling of unity and a shared experience, was haunting yet somehow comforting. It was somber, beautiful, stomach-churning, enlightening and respectful all at once. If you haven't made the trip, I strongly urge you to make the time. They say you should expect to spend 90 minutes to two hours in the Museum, but i would attest you need a minimum of four hours. And take your kids. They needed to know what happened before they can remember and honor it.
