When you understand the assignment 😎

Are you applying for @chimarathon? This would be my first major marathon and by far the largest marathon I would have run in. I prefer small marathons typically under 1,000 people but you only live once 🀘🏾. by @runboneyt

Have u heard the story about the black guy who walked into a bar after trying to run 100 miles?

No? Darn, you're missing out on a epic tale🀘🏾. It's a tale of big run goals 🎯, epic swings & misses & abundant joy πŸ˜β€‰β€‰β€‰β€‰

This year I set out to push my mind & body more than any year thus far. The end goals were sub 3 marathon & 100 miler. Knocked marathon out in April at @tidewaterstriders & moved on to 100 miler πŸ‘€πŸΏ.

WELP fought the good fight but after trying to figure out stomach issues from around mile 31, I threw in the towel at 23 hours, 19 minutes & 12 seconds & 76.3 miles. But learned so much along the way

βœ… Gave myself hella flowers this sh🀬t not easy
βœ… My twigs for legs are pretty strong πŸ’ͺπŸΎβ€‰β€‰β€‰β€‰
βœ… The pain cave is a dark but delightful place
βœ… Being present along the journey is vital
βœ… Don't get caught in comparison matrix, do u
βœ… Couldn't do it without the wife & kids support β™₯️

Also don't be afraid to venture out locally & find your run tribe or two, @blackmenrunrva, @richmond_trail_runners & @virginiaadventures1 have been vital to my running joy & furthered my network of run buddies & friends.

1 more (ok maybe 2 more πŸ˜„) races left in 2025

Expanding my comfort zone, furthering 3rd πŸ‘οΈ & above all working on being the best me possible. Many a journey ahead ready for the ups & downs.

A strong faith & belief in knowing you exist for a distinct purpose makes you invincible & a good support circle as well makes for a great combo. Grateful tings 😌

@oilcreek100trailruns - 10/4 looking forward to that journey @marathonmarq_ also tackling the distance πŸ™ŒπŸΎ & @perriartsyrunner is doing the 100K Friday night pasta dinner before race we ready 🍝 by @runboneyt

Less focus on likes & more energy being intentional chasing goals & living life πŸ₯·πŸΎβ€‰β€‰

Road to Oil Creek is in session πŸ™πŸΎβ€‰β€‰

Summertime szn has been incredible. Enjoying renewed focus on being more present with wife, kids, family & friends. Renewed commitment to reading (at present knocking out 1-2 πŸ“š a month) & focusing on getting more people who look like me out on the trails, road & outdoors in general, looking forward to more news on that soon enough 😎.

This year my A goals running wise are:

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Sub 3 marathon
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Completing 100 miler
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Making sure running is still fun πŸ€˜πŸΎβ€‰β€‰

2 of 3 βœ…οΈ & feeling ok so far about @oilcreek100trailruns on 10/4. Been enjoying the ultra chat with @shawn_wolverine96 & @joe.faifer been a wealth of knowledge πŸ’―

100 mile training is time on feet with mix of
βœ”οΈ back 2 back days long runs
βœ”οΈ long run am & hike pm same day bi-weekly,
βœ”οΈ adding speed day intervals & tempo in trails

Running Wild Turkey 50 miler 8/23 as long run & got a few fellas going to West Virginia to run that weekend as well, should be a πŸ“½πŸ’ͺ🏾πŸ”₯ by @runboneyt

After 7 marathons I still feel new to the distance. Marathons are cruel but yet somehow kind. Without a doubt half marathons are my preference, but its something about that 26.2 that keeps me coming back to dance.

I have concluded a few things though over my 4 year marathon journey:

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Alot is not within your control race day. As long as you are showing up the best version of you at that moment, its a W πŸ†β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Mileage is important but not everything. Find what works for you & live there.

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Train your gut for race day before race day. Practice how your system does with those new gels & increased carbs several runs & especialy on 1 or 2 long runs. No surprises on race day πŸ€’β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Some days your runs will suck, its okay. My best marathon I had some of my worst speed runs, like WAY WAY off pace but the adaptation stimulus worked πŸ˜‰β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Strength training as cliché as it may be, YAS!!
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Take breaks from running, days off during builds, all of it, avoiding burnout is πŸ”‘β€‰

Too many people to thank but appreciate everyone that has provided kind words, encouragement, laughter, truly appreciated. Could not pursue any of this madness without @s.torrance741 😍 πŸ‘ΈπŸΎ by @runboneyt

Monument Ave 10K - 🏁 36:20

Thankful for a fun & injury free race πŸ™πŸΎ. Huge thanks to @avegas21 @travvvyb_ & @readetome. I was not going to run this race as I was not in the best of spirits leading up to it but due to their encouragement I decided to sign up day before & happy I did 😎.

Huge shout out to all who ran this year always ❀️ seeing so many familiar faces in RVA run community & the city in general come out, its a whole vibe fo sho.

Pleased with my effort, nowhere near a PR but I am pleased with my effort. Ran by feel & enjoyed each step even when it felt not so enjoyable.
Huge shout to the young 🦁 @thecchosen_1 on his PR ✊🏾.

January 2025 βœ…οΈβ€‰β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Kicked off year by doing 12 mile run with the homie @avegas21

Always thankful to run with bro & share a good laugh & catch up, what u say bro, Erie again this year? πŸ€£β€‰β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ It isnt a weekend trail run without the OG @kwame_nkrumah7. Our 14 mile snowy trek at Pocahontas State Park had us crossing a downed tree to get across creek, fun but not doing that again πŸš«πŸ€£β€‰β€‰

In 2024 we encouraged & assured we each completed our first 50 mile ultra. Looking forward to many a run & dope convo in 2025

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Had a great time celebrating daughters birthday at @sweetwynns . A great space, awesome experience & most importantly the girls loved the finished product 🍨. Thanks to @s.torrance741 as always for finding great outings & always enjoy supporting black owned in central Virginia

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ To close out last weekend of January I took part in @virginiaadventures1 Willis River 50K. Eventhough along with 2 other volunteers I helped mark the course running it was even tougher than I thought. Good amount of elevation (almost 4,000 ft), tons of creek crossings, some absurd bending down to crawl under trees & the thorns, oh my πŸ€•.

Huge shout out to my Ultra brother @surgedrunning. He initially suggested I give ultras a go in 2023 after connecting on IG & running this race together made it so dope. Being on your feet for 7 hours you talk alot & what conversation we had. My ultra brother indeed, looking forward to pacing you for that last 30 miles at C&O 100

Willis River 50K was great experience. I continue to be inspired to push boundaries distance wise the more I immerse myself in the ultramarathon community. Kudos to Dan for creating such a great energy at his races & so many people across all walks of life consistently showing up.

The next few months I shift to training mostly on road for a 10K & marathon both in April. Then remainder of year all about trails culminating in 100K race with 11,000 ft of elevation in October.

The 🎯 in 2024 was lofty, 100% in, never losses, only lessons.  Erie the one that got away but thankful a scary situation turned out okay.

All in all couldn't be more pleased with outcomes.

Freight Train 50K βœ…οΈβ€‰β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ This year 4:26:38 6th place
πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Last year 4:34:20 4th place

Running in 2024 theme has been duality

Jan. - Aug. Speed focus & races 5K-13.1
Sep. - Dec. Long runs & races 26.2-50 miles

@virginiaadventures1 makes ultras feel like a fun gathering of jokes, ugly sweaters & good eats which just happens to culminate in a bunch of people running tons of miles over hours & hours & hours (ok u get it).

Last year I tackled my first 50K.

This year I added my first 50 miler & how fitting to end the year in races with Freight Train. Huge shout out to @surgedrunning. Yep Sergio convinced me to give ultras a try & I have to thank him, I think 🀣, no yeah I do πŸ’ͺπŸΎβ€‰β€‰

Albeit a sub 30 degree start πŸ₯Ά this years race was beautiful & always inspiring talking to everyone & hearing their why.

An 84 years young person danced with 50K & did it, so let's not have any limitations on challenging ourselves.

Shout out to @leonelalberto.jr on his first 50K & less than 3 weeks after a marathon, he decided to carry the boat πŸ›₯. Also kudos to @johnjohnplace for making that 50K look easy with that Eagles beanie on πŸ¦….   Wouldn't be Freight Train without thanking @masonroni for his energy!!

Lastly its so dope to see more people of color tackling ultras & thankful to be in company of the ultra king @marathonmarq_ & the nature king @kwame_nkrumah7

Now I look forward to 2 weeks off 😎πŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸš€ by @runboneyt

Stone Mill 50 Miler βœ…οΈβ€‰

11:49:48 ⏳️ 5,128 gain πŸ§—πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ

My toughest race by far! Preface to this that distinction went to Freight Train 50K since 31 miles was my longest effort.

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ After an unfortunate outcome at Erie Marathon this was the race & journey I needed

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ Carbs, Carbs, & more Carbs - @precisionfandh gels, @bpnsupps G.1.M Sport, mandarins, @larabar & russet potatoes it all found my belly without any GI issues πŸ˜‹β€‰

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ So many badasses!!! Finally met the legend @colocha.runs & so many superb trail runners all supportive & hammering away. Dale Morey was a godsend, more on that in recap post

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ The body is so resilient, utterly amazing.

Special shout out to @trihardham, @avegas21, @blackmenrunrva, @kwame_nkrumah7, @runningforthepopo & @richmond_trail_runners all played a key part in this journey 😎 so many more as well
