@iau_ultrarunning 100km World Championships - 6:17:50 for bronze, a national road record and a 25 minute PB 🥉🇬🇧🔔

After a few months of niggles, I was just happy to make the start line. Training had gone reasonably well, averaging 163km/week for the 10 weeks prior, although not reaching the same shape as before this year's Comrades.

The race got tougher as the temperature climbed from 14°C to over 30°C. I held back early, keeping the heart rate controlled and trusting that those ahead would come back later. I ran around four minutes slower in the second half, which was better than I’d expected - the three weeks of heat training must have helped.

Fuelling and cooling every 5km was made much easier by Dan Robinson and the superbly organised GB team staff, who seemed to have an endless supply of ice.

Pre-race: @flycarb bicarb, @drinknomio and @curranzsport

During: @precisionfandh carb + sodium mix and caffeine gels

The support from the team, spectators and fellow athletes got me through some very tough patches. I was pretty close to collapse by the finish, so was very relieved to make it over the line!

The British men also took team silver, missing gold by just 44 seconds after more than 19 hours of combined running. 🥈

Huge thanks to my family for putting up with the training over the summer holidays - especially my three year old, whose response to “I’m going for a run” is always: “Not again!” 😂

Thanks to @nedao.running for their continued support and for helping with the self-funded aspect of this race.

A pretty special day with a brilliant team. 🇬🇧

Alex Milne 🥉 World 100km Championships

Imagine averaging 18:53 for 5km, 20 times in a row 😮

That is effectively what Alex Milne did at the World 100km Championships, finishing in an astonishing 6:17:50 🥉

It is genuinely hard to get your head around. That is 6:04 per mile / 3:47 per km for more than six hours 🔨

What makes the performance even more impressive is Alex's consistency 📈

Our quarter-by-quarter analysis shows just how consistent Alex was across the full 100km. He covered the first 50km in 3:06:40, averaging 3:44/km, before running the second 50km in 3:11:10 at 3:49/km.

That is a slowdown of just 2.4% between the two halves of a 100km race!

We are incredibly proud to support Alex as he continues to establish himself among the very best ultra-endurance runners in the world.

And there was another interesting takeaway for us.
At least four men in the top 25 that we know of used BICARRB.

Sodium bicarbonate is best known for shorter, high-intensity events, but performances like these show its potential role in ultra endurance racing too.

🥉 World 100km bronze
⏱️ 6:17:50
⚡ 3:47/km average pace

Some performance Alex, mate!

In this week's piece we sat down with 2:11 man and World 50km Champion, Alex Milne.

Milne's rise from two failed sub-three attempts to a European record holder is a lesson in leaning into your weaknesses, learning from disappointments and mercilessly marching on.

I think anyone at any level can take something away from Milne's journey, one that continues to be a big source of inspiration to clubmates and compatriots following along behind.

"Learn to lose, the 18 year making of Alex Milne" is out now, link in gjmallett bio.

London Marathon 2026 - 2:13:51 (67:25/66:26) for 25th in the elite race.

Insane crowd support as always, with family and friends cheering making it extra special.

Started conservatively as got a cold only a few days before but felt better than expected running with a big pack for the majority and managed to really push the final 7k.

Great to be part of @pumarunning Project3 again.

And thanks @umbreenfk for the pic. taken in London, United Kingdom by @runmilnerun

Photos from last weekend becoming a 50km World Champion and European Record holder.

A massive thank you to everyone that has reached out over the past week - the support has been incredible. A special mention to my family for staying awake to follow the race into the early hours of the morning.

There was superb team management from @ultrabritton and great company for all those hours stuck in anti-doping. And I was lucky to have perfect crewing from @alydixon, Olympian and former 50km World Record holder.

Hugely grateful to @physiosteouk for keeping me injury-free with regular treatments in the lead up to race day.

Thank you also to the brands: @precisionfandh

Race debrief:
After the marathon PB four weeks earlier, I was confident my fitness was in place, so the focus was on staying healthy ahead of the 50km. Conditions in Delhi were challenging, with warm temperatures of 20 degrees and air pollution in the unhealthy range, plus a 4am start after almost no sleep due to jetlag.
The race was ten 5km laps, making fuelling easier, and we used ice vests, ice bandanas and lots of water tipped over our heads to keep cool. I started conservatively, running in a small group with @logannsmith3 while keeping my effort controlled, as an early leader from Canada surged ahead. Feeling strong through halfway, I pushed at 30km to take the lead, despite some mid-race fuelling issues 🤮.
Once in front, I gradually extended the gap, though pressure remained with teammates close behind and the European record in sight. The final 10km were tough, with heavy legs and even darker conditions as streetlights went out before sunrise, but I held on.
After a near-miss with a bike on the cobbles, I finished strongly on the track to take the win, leading home an incredible British 1-2-3-4-5-6 which of course secured the team victory. taken in New Delhi by @runmilnerun

Alex Milne | 50km World Champion 🏆

Alex “the magician” Milne has just pulled one almighty rabbit out of the hat.

The 🇬🇧 Team GB international stormed to the 50km World Title, setting a new European Record of 2:46:09, beating the previous record of 2:47:32 — that’s 3:19/km (5:21 per mile) for 50km.

In the heat of Delhi, India, Alex leaned on BICARRB to help buffer muscle acidity and delay fatigue. With 4500mg of sodium, the added electrolytes also helped him fight off cramp and stay hydrated in brutal conditions.

Alex has this to say on the salty magic 🥣

🗣️"Front-loading with all that sodium works really well, especially in the Delhi heat! Thanks again guys!"

Just to recap, everyone’s favourite ultra athlete is now:

🏆 World Champion

🏁 European Record Holder

🥇 World Team Champion

All in all… a pretty good day at the office.

Alex Milne - World Champion, European record holder and one of our own.

At 4am this morning, Hercules' own Alex Milne set out for 50k round the streets of New Delhi. Three months ago this World 50k Championships was cancelled due to high pollution levels. 90 days later, conditions had improved but athletes still faced temperatures in excess of 20 degrees and air quality lower than ideal.

Milne has, since he joined the club in 2019, been part of a generation that has continued to set new heights as a senior endurance group. A proud member of the Southern cross country senior mens winning squad, Alex is seen as regularly donning his spikes round the mud of Lloyd Park or the former landfill site of Mitcham Common.

Alex will be the first to admit, his progress has been steady. Others performances may have grabbed the plaudits, but the 35-year-old's rise has been relentless.

County to international vest, over the marathon and further he has found a home. 2:14 in a hot London in 25, a Loch Ness Marathon record that autumn, it wasn't perhaps until Seville this February that Milne got the credit his pursuit of better had long made overdue.

2:11:41 then, just four weeks later in the heat of the Indian capital, Milne passed through the marathon distance in 2:17. The best of Japan, the USA and the rest had departed and in his tow lay only the best of Britain. An unprecedented day for British ultra-running.

Less than 8k later, Milne was a world champion, the European record shattered in 2:46:09. Five other GB athletes followed him homem

14th March 2026, Hercules has their first senior world champion. For Milne, don't bet against better being yet to come. by @runmilnerun
