Yesterday, I fulfilled my dream of becoming an Ironman. No words can express how thankful and grateful to God and all the people who have been SO supportive to me of my goal. Without them, I would have not finished yesterday. It was over 90° with the heat index and I got so dehydrated, (and currently dealing with a UTI😖), but I was surrounded by the best village of people to fulfill my dream
•
To God: Thank you for a healthy body and the gift of the ability to cover these miles, the gift of friendship in endurance sports, and for sending all the right people in my path to help me finish yesterday.
•
To the volunteers: THANK YALL for everything: for pulling me out of the swim water, to helping me put on my shoes and bib, to fixing my bike and bandaging me up after my bike crash, to pep talking me, to helping all of us get fluids, and massaging my calf and dealing with me screaming in pain 😅 Ironman volunteers are heaven sent. Without yall, I wouldn’t have crossed the finish line

✨What I wish I knew when I took up running 14.5 years ago✨
•
•Lighter weight ≠ faster
•Your diet doesn’t need to be perfect
•You NEED animal proteins
•You will love this. It takes time.
•Your worth is NOT in your performance!
•This sport is a rollercoaster, not a straight line.
•You are capable of way more than you can imagine.
•It’s more respectable to progress slowly over time and to overcome obstacles instead of rising to the top quickly.
•KEEP. EASY. RUNS. EASY. 🏃🏻‍♀️
•EAT. ENOUGH. FOOD. 🥦

✨ Fixed Mindset v. Growth Mindset✨
•
A key to success in running is living beyond fixed mindsets. A fixed mindset is the mindset that you cannot improve at anything mo matter how hard you try. It’s like you’re either good at it or you’re not. That thinking is so self sabotaging. What does a fixed mindset look like in the sport?
•
🙅🏻‍♀️ “I can’t get any faster no matter how hard I try.”
•
🙅🏻‍♀️ “I’m not naturally good at running.”
•
🙅🏻‍♀️ Avoids pushing distance or paces for fear of failure.
 •
🙅🏻‍♀️ Gives up at the first sign of not hitting a pace or distance.
•
🙅🏻‍♀️ Expecting quick progress in running.
•
A growth mindset is a mindset that you can always improve at your sport, especially when you don’t have a good start. What does a growth mindset look like?
•
📣 Uses mistakes and constructive criticism as an opportunity to grow and not an attack.
•
📣 “I may not be at that pace or distance, YET.”
•
📣 “I’m in the process of being a successful runner with every run.”
•
📣 Doesn’t give up with they don’t reach their goal the first, second, or even tenth time at attempting it.
•
📣 Celebrates small successes, like putting in miles or eating a healthy meal.
•
📣 “Success in running takes time, and it takes years to peak. I’m going to keep showing up every day to make that progress.”
•
📣 “I may start off very slow and with bad form, but I can always correct my form and build speed.”
•
📣 “I ran a fast time, but this isn’t the fastest I can run. I can get even faster.”
•
Tag an athlete to encourage them to break fixed mindsets!

Run/Triathlon update…………..
•
I signed up for round three of the @houhalf and I’m very excited, and yes, I am wearing this same skater dress!! It’s at the end of October. I am also contemplating a 70.3 relay and maybe another half marathon this fall but haven’t decided. I’m still doing base training, mainly running and cycling. I just need to start SWIM TRAINING again 🏊‍♀️ I’m also gearing up for another full marathon on the horizon. 🏃 taken in Houston, Texas by @runnergal_devdanie

🥂Goodbye August + Some Life Lately🥂
•
I have definitely been quiet on here lately but I’m still living it up and still training. I’m sticking to base training while also trying to enjoy life. I’m doing the usual bike miles and running miles and the usual not as much strength and swimming I should be doing, but oh well, I’ll get back into it. I just don’t have pictures to show for my training but it’s still happening. 🏃

I’m definitely wishing August ended differently than it did but I’m still seeing God’s goodness through it. I am looking forward to September because I have a trip planned and I haven’t been able to travel in a long time so I’m really excited. It will be so healing. I get to see my family this weekend so I’m excited. 😆

🇺🇸 July 🇺🇸
•
July was full of blessings: Firecracker 5K, ranch weekend getaway with the fam, sweet nephews, good iced coffee, base triathlon training, pool party, cross stitching with Naner, reading, scrapbooking, journaling, golden hour walks, evenings in the pool, and lots of art 🎨 Some are pictured, some are not.

Reasons to follow or unfollow me 🏃
•
•
•
Easy runs should be easy. An “easy run” run at 8:00 pace or faster is NOT an easy run. 🏃
•
I no longer believe in training 7 days a week. 1-2 rest days per week is helpful for both mental and physical recovery. ❤️‍🩹
•
People who are already thin should NOT be using GLP1s or ozempic for no reason other than their own vanity. ✋
•
Yes the workout happened, even if you didn’t post it. Not every training session needs to be posted.
•
I think trading some of those excess miles for strength training and recovery is more beneficial to speed and longevity.
•
I think there is way too much emphasis on running the world majors. There are many races that are fun with great energy that are not majors.
•
I think that runstagram should be about sharing your journey, not just posting “hot takes”, comparing paces, or doing races solely for content.
•
Pool training may not be open water swimming but it still serves a purpose. Stationary bikes may not be actual bikes but they still serve a purpose. Don’t be ashamed to use these to train for triathlons if you don’t yet have a bike or not near open water.

BOSTON QUALIFIER SELECTION 🦄
•
Let’s talk about it……..
•
@bostonmarathon is reserving 1000 entries for applicants who do not make the cut off who will be randomly selected by a lottery so they can still get a chance to run. Reviews are mixed, saying that this is a good thing. Others aren’t happy because they want all the first time applicants to be accepted into the race. Personally, I believe it will be impossible for the BAA to please everyone. However, between the BAA adding time to downhill marathon BQs and adding lottery slots for people who missed the cut off, I think they are trending in the right direction as far as listening to the runners concerns. This race is getting harder and harder to get accepted in to, and I think the lottery entries are a good idea. I say this as someone who was part of the ~11,000 not accepted into the 2024 race due to only having a 24 second buffer. It still gives someone who missed cut off a bit of hope of getting to run Boston.
•
What do yall think of this new change for Boston?

I’m very thankful to give myself the gift of triathlon training as an adult. It’s one of the most healing things. I think about this and it motivates me to get er done, even when it’s super hot outside. Haven’t been posting my workouts but I’ve had a lot of cycling and running miles lately, followed by this heaven sent iced cookie butter latte ☕️ I am so thankful that I live in the city and am so close to everything 🙏 taken in Houston, Texas by @runnergal_devdanie

Golden hour 5Ks with @britthaddad >>> 🌞
What a saga this race was. Race started at 7, Brittany realized she forgot her bib right at 6:20, she rushed home despite all the stop and go traffic, finds parking and makes it right at 7pm on the dot. I was veryyyyy impressed 👍🏻 Anyway, we raced the Firecracker 5k on the woodlands waterway (one of my all time favorite places to run), got these light up medals, and had beer 🍻 and appetizers (spinach artichoke dip, calamari and wings) at @thegoosesacre 🍻 Such a great night taken in The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion by @runnergal_devdanie
