Take your easy runs easy! I used to go all out every run. I’d be all taped up with KT tape by the time races came around and hobbling into PT after. Learning to slow down has been hard but having help with a coach has helped. When I first started working with a coach I had to go painfully slow. But staying healthy has made it worth it and I’ve learned how much working on my aerobic strength matters. Our bodies needs the miles and the oxygen more than constantly pushing the tempo… but I still love the faster workout runs best:) #marathonrunner by @runninginstitches

Figuring out how to run in the cold. What to wear? How many layers? Today I loved my Segments washable wool base layer from Costco. It kept my core warm and I didn’t feel like I got too hot. The sunshine made me feel a little warm but when the sun disappeared behind the clouds I was a little cold. I think the hardest part is I can’t seem to warm up afterward. Even after a warm shower I feel like I struggle to warm up. Still figuring it out but proud of myself for getting it done āœ… #winterrunning #marionowool #costcofinds by @runninginstitches

Baltimore Marathon recap: when I was prepping for this race I couldn’t find any info on the race. Bits and pieces about how hard it is and hilly but no one really giving many details. So I’ll try. For reference, I chose this marathon because I’ve only run flat courses and I have Boston in the spring. I don’t feel like this is similar to Boston but did give me a chance to test my mental strength. I realized I really like hilly courses. The first three miles were supposed to be all uphill but there were some downhill parts that broke up the work. The 3:30 pace group told us they would try to run even splits so that really made the downhill feel a break. I had been told that the beginning and the big hill at 18 were the hardest and the park was sneaky hard. I felt really good for 18 miles. There was fan coverage for most of the race and some neighborhoods where you remember that smoking many things is legal in Maryland. I saw quite a few dead animals on the course which I thought was weird but the hardest thing was a cobblestone roundabout that made it hard to get my footing right. Mile 18 hill is a doozy. I lost the pace group on that hill and I really felt the race slip away a little bit. I wish I had just dug in and regrouped but I let the negative review of the park get in my head. At mile 20 I felt a rock in my shoe. I thought that was so weird but knew there was no way I would stop and check. The pain in my foot got worse and I walked twice. I’ve never walked in a marathon. I needed a boost but others around me were stopping to walk too. I knew the fastest way to take off my shoe was get to the finish. I got into a pretty good groove. The last three miles were better. More down than up and you felt the energy of the crowd. I ended 7 minutes off my goal pace. Turns out I had a blister not a rock on my foot so thankfully I didn’t take off my shoe mid race. All in all - I was proud….#baltimoremarathon (more in comments) by @runninginstitches

Needed a hilly course and Baltimore did not disappoint. Stayed with the pace team and enjoyed the rolling hills for the first 18 miles. A blister on the ball of my foot and some stubborn legs slowed me down for the end but I was proud of my time and effort. Need to start strength training these legs before the spring. Thanks to my family for being the best cheerleaders and bottle swappers and making sure I’m taken care of… biggest question: is Magnolia taller than me? Well I’m not wearing shoes in that picture but it looks like she may have taken the lead either way! by @runninginstitches
