We drove from Slidell, La to Orange, CA with some stops along the way. It made me wonder about the Wild Wild West. Give me your western movie recommendations. by @runningmama_com

Senior Year always starts off feeling normal and then suddenly someone hits the fast forward button.

It was a beautiful year comprised of 1000 beautiful moments—early morning practices, finish lines, lots of laughs and lessons. This was also a year of peak sibling appreciation. Grace achieved her dream of making homecoming court, and her cheeks were sore from smiling that whole week! Every moment after that flew by! She truly soaked it all in and made the most of all senior year had to offer. It’s hard for both of us to turn the page to the next chapter because I truly enjoyed seeing her so happy! by @runningmama_com

So incredibly grateful for this Spring Break/beautiful week to have so much time with my children. It kicked off with a track meet. Then a trip to Houma on Good Friday. Saturday we cheered on Josh who got gifted a last minute entry to Crescent City. Ronnie took over in the kitchen and planned most of the meals this week which was great bc I had work to catch up on, practice and Grace’s senior pictures to help with. Last night we went camping locally and again Ronnie planned the whole thing. Nothing was glamorous or spectacular from an outside perspective and yet the whole week felt beautiful. I got to spend time with James and Katelyn too! During the week, me, Grace, Ronnie and Josh just had little moments in between appointments or track meets where we got to connect. I feel recharged! I am going back to work with a full cup! by @runningmama_com

Today I was inspired to chart my own path! Instead of doing a regular old run racing against the clock, I multi-tasked doing stuff I wanted to do with exercise. What I didn’t expect was to have such great conversations along the way. I was talking to @btheplantmagician and @007m.lyons about how cool it is that they found a way to insert their style into their business and make it entirely their own. It works and people love it. I also met a lady who is starting a business called Sea love where you can create your own scented candles. I had a good time, and I am learning lately how to make fitness more fun for myself and less rigid! My heart sings in moments like these where I just feel absolute freedom. by @runningmama_com

There are actually no steps or requirements but these things sure made Grace’s 18th birthday run a success. She started doing a birthday run for the age she is turning for her 16th bday, and so this is the third consecutive year. She is so lucky to have such faithful friends and support. Her brother missed class so he could join in, coach came, and Annie and Alex have come all three years, and so many joined in this year 🄺. I was so bummed when I saw my tire was flat, but I knew I wasn’t going to miss it. I aggravated some cars along the way by following in my car, but it was worth it. I am absolutely amazed that they make running 18 miles look so easy! 3 hours and 10 minutes total including stops! #xc #longruns #birthdayrun by @runningmama_com

I HAD THE BEST DAY:
These are pics from my cool down walk after my little workout at a park in Baton Rouge near LSU.
I came to Baton Rouge to see Katelyn and help her clean and pack. The wonderful thing about being a mother is that love brings out a different strength. The anxiety I typically battle was silenced in favor of just being available! (I wasn’t even upset when I accidentally threw my clothes in the dumpster. šŸ˜†). While Katelyn was working on her project, I went to nearby Trader Joe’s (my favorite store), and then found a park to do an OCR style workout. I did a thorough warm up and then three rounds of a half mile run, ten stepups, slow descending sit ups and a couple of pull ups using the little workout pad at the park. It was nice to return to my OCR roots and just to make the most of what I had available. Afterwards I had a nice scenic walk just taking in all the beauty and dropped off a couple of books in someone’s little mailbox library. (I also surprised myself when I picked up a book about Galveston to take home. Ha!). I just loved my day and my time with Katelyn! I prayed for my body to gain some rest, and I feel like I gained that TODAY. #rest #resetbutton by @runningmama_com

What a week!!! From Memphis, TN to Homecoming to everything in between. It has been a wild and exciting ride to share in Grace’s excitement of making Homecoming court and relishing all the support from her teammates, family and friends to waking up the next day to run a cross country race where both her and Josh got PR’s to Josh’s first homecoming. All of this coming off of a Memphis trip last weekend to the Hoka National Race. We also had midterms this week for my classes, and I was so tired coming off of an out of town trip. I just prayed that I would be able to enjoy it all, and I did! I finally got a break Friday morning bc Grammie took Josh to pick out his Homecoming clothes so I literally did nothing! Ha. I was so grateful that Katelyn came home to see Grace walk down the field for Homecoming court. My dad and stepmom came into town from Houma, and we got to visit. Grammie, Gramps, and Aunt Tammy came out to the game and brought her flowers. My neighbors Jim and Bunny drove Grace in the Homecoming parade, and the cross country team walked behind her car shouting out her name the whole parade. My sister sent her the hat she wore and paid for her outfit. I only have videos of my kids racing bc other parents send them to me since I get so caught up in the coaching aspect, I often don’t take any pictures or videos. We are surrounded by such love and support! People see my kids and often give me credit for who they turned out to be. I know better! There is a whole team of people they are surrounded by that have made them who they are!

In the midst of chaos yesterday, Josh and I got breakfast in downtown Hammond after the race, and I was going to hurry home after so I could take a nap before the next round of activities. He asked if I wanted to walk around instead, and actually the thought had not even crossed my mind to do that before he asked. I am glad I did. We looked up in the sky and there were airplanes drawing this smiley face. We stumbled upon a farmers’ market too. It’s like he reminded me to stop and smell the roses. by @runningmama_com

My last summer weekday! I forgot to mention watching a movie with @katelyn.kmb (sorta. I napped while she watched). I so enjoyed my day and summer and did so many things on my summer bucket list but what I enjoy most is spending lots of time with family and friends and being outdoors. by @runningmama_com

And then there were TWO….Grace’s senior year officially begins. Joshua is a sophmore. Ronnie is off at Sol camp for college, and so he checked into his dorm early. Katelyn* is still enjoying summer but will be starting her fourth year at LSU (she will have another year after this one bc her program is five years) and James* has started his career and adult life! It is wild how the passing of time can feel so fast and so slow all at once. I remember feeling the effects of monotony driving them to school everyday and wanting time to fast forward a little. Now that they drive themselves I can see that even in the one or two sentence conversations, I was gaining connection and getting to know and understand them more. I distinctly remember driving Grace and Josh to Florida Avenue and dropping Ronnie off at junior high, and everyday Grace would say ā€œI love you Ronnieā€ but he wouldn’t say it back. I wondered if they would ever be close. Then a few years later Ronnie started driving and the two of them would jam out to Taylor Swift on the carride šŸ˜‚. I was so impressed when he offered to take Grace to school everyday without my asking. (He was 100% financially responsible for driving so I didn't feel like I could ask). And now Josh rides with Grace and they have their own talks. I am sure next year Josh will be driving himself to school. If I had a time remote I would be pressing pause so hard it would jam the button but then again if I had the remote I might have fast forwarded the parts that have now transformed into rich memories in my mind. So instead I think I’ll just breathe deep and try to be present in the moment.

*I don't have past pictures of James and Katelyn with Ronnie, Grace and Joshua bc when they lived with me they were homeschooled but both eventually stayed mostly with their dads. by @runningmama_com
