Oh, the RVM…

One of the races that started it all for me, and one that will always represent sacrifice, resilience, and perspective.

I ran this race in 2024 on short notice, just days after wrapping up a four-week filming contract with @usarugby and @rugbycanada.

Burnt out, out of shape, and carrying the weight of losing a loved one just before race day, I crossed that start line with a heavy heart. Finishing that race meant more than any finish time ever could.

A year later, soaked to the bone, we had the privilege of helping lead a crew of 40 volunteers and medical staff on Dallas. Watching so many good friends, and thousands of absolute badasses push themselves toward their goals was every bit as rewarding as running it myself.

Set along one of the most beautiful coastal courses in Canada, the RVM holds a special place in my heart. It’s a race that reminds me how beauty and sacrifice often exist side by side.

Now, year 3 brings a fresh chapter. With @outwaysocks stepping in as title sponsor, I’m excited to build on the past two years—not just by running the race again, but by sharing the stories of the incredible people who will stand on that start line this October. ❤️ taken in Victoria, British Columbia by @runwtrav

We’re about to witness a golden age of fitness-meets-entertainment events in Victoria, and I hope you’re ready for what’s coming!🔥

@hbatuhankaya x @frontrunnersvic Run the Parkade was the culmination of creative powerhouses coming together to create a show that nobody in attendance truly knew what to expect from.

That is where the magic began!

Over the past two years and across 30+ events, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to share fleeting creative moments with @karljanisse and @hbatuhankaya. But somehow, we’d never had the opportunity to truly work together on a project.

Run the Parkade changed that.

It was a masterclass in experience, trust, collaboration, and knowing when to support, when to step in, and when to let each other run with an idea. Ultimately, it was the reflection of three crazy people with huge hearts, coming together and pouring everything we had into creating something that pushed the standard for what a fitness event can be in Victoria.

To everyone who found a little courage, showed up, and raced — thank you. You brought the energy that made the whole thing come alive. ❤️‍🔥

A huge thank you to @jaywalrus @kwonmedia_sports @mishaspictures for jumping into the chaos with us and capturing both the glory and everything in between.

Honourable mentions goes to the genius that is @karljanisse for designing a light show with a small budget that allowed grown adults to rediscover that little kid in them for a couple hours on a Friday night.

And a massive thank you to @jawlproperties and @frontrunnersvic for providing the space and the trust to turn a crazy idea into reality.

This isn’t a post I’d normally make, but it matters deeply.

On Friday I learned that Tony Kinahan, a well known face in Victoria’s running community, suddenly passed away.

Tony often joined our larger runs with @notoriousrunclub, including the Crossover Episodes, Red Bull Wings for Life, and our anniversaries. Most recently he spoke at our Crossover Episode 2 event on behalf of @cooldownclub_

He brought incredible energy and a smile to every run, always asking how he could help, whether carrying the backpack speakers or leading a pace group.

At times he and I butted heads. Looking back, I wish I could go back and offer more support, or have a deeper conversation with him beyond running.

I’ve struggled with mental health myself, and for over a decade dealt with it in silence. There wasn’t a moment with Tony where I picked up on any signs, and that truly breaks my heart.

The last run Tony joined us for was a charity event with WIRTH Foundation, raising money to expand access to mental health services for those who can’t afford them, and to remove the stigma around seeking support.

It’s gutting that we weren’t able to help a friend among us who, at the time, may have needed it most.

If you, or anyone connected to this community, even someone who’s never joined a run club, is facing personal adversity, please reach out to me, @notoriousrunclub, a trusted friend, or family who love you. Even without direct experience, we have resources and connections to offer support. Please lean on us if you need anything.

Tony’s passing has hit me deeply, especially since there were little to no telltale signs in our conversations. We are all facing adversity in some form, and I want you to know we are here for you.

Tomorrow from 1 to 3pm there will be a memorial celebrating his life at Windsor Park Pavilion in Oak Bay.

Even a brief five minute chat with Tony at any Victoria run club is reason enough to take an hour out of your day to come tomorrow afternoon.

If you can’t attend, @cooldownclub_ is hosting a special run next Sunday to honour his life and all he contributed to the Victoria running community.

Two years, one family and a special energy that cannot be found anywhere else in Victoria.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all the new and returning runners who came out to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary in style.

Shoutout to our DJ’s @malnacidoscoll and @tfagym for coming out and sharing the roads with us!

@notoriousrunclub wouldn’t be a reality without all of you who have chosen to show up every Saturday since Sept. ‘24. Whether you ran with us once or since the beginning, we thank you! 🙏

Two years, a life time of memories and well over a thousand Notorious runners.

In 2024 three normal ass dudes stumbled by each other at the perfect moment. We all had the same drive, a fire to do as much as we could to change the landscape of fitness in Victoria.

To be loud, chase dreams and create memories worth sharing with our kids one day.

The last two years have tested us beyond belief, we’ve poured our hearts and souls into this mission and YOU the community heard our calls.

Thank you Victoria for the opportunity, the countless laughs, the drive to push our limits time and time again.

Tomorrow we celebrate two years of hard fought lessons, friendships that’ll last forever and a core belief that showing up for yourself is the first step to showing up for your neighbours.

Notorious Run Club turns two. 🥳

So obviously, we had to celebrate by doing something Victoria hasn’t seen before.

On Saturday, September 5, we’re taking over the morning.

We’re kicking things off at 10AM with a DJ on the run, then heading back to Whistle Buoy from 11AM–1PM for the birthday party.

Two years ago, Saturday mornings changed.

RUN THE PARKADE FAQ 🏁

How far is the race?
It’s a 4x400m relay! Each teammate runs one 400m lap.

Are there lanes?
Nope. Open racing area. Pick your line. Think F1, but on foot.

Are there batons?
Of course! This is a real relay. Clean handoffs only. 🤝

Where do we exchange?
We’ll have a designated 5m exchange zone for baton handoffs.

Do I need a team?
No! Register solo and we’ll match you with a squad if you don’t have a team

When do I race?
Check in by 6 PM. Heats start at 7 PM and are assigned on a first-come basis.

Ready to race? See you on September 25th 🤩
