In Aldershot on Saturday 19 September?

Join us for a special FREE film screening of ‘The Masks We Wear’ - a powerful, youth-led documentary sharing lived experiences of young people from the Army Welfare Services.

The film explores identity, belonging, and family roles inspired by discussions around International Women’s Day and mental wellbeing.

Working alongside documentary filmmaker @karolinaraczynski, the young people used painting, collage, and photography to decorate face masks, enabling them to explore their identities visually and bring aspects of their personalities and experiences to life.

Another year, another summer spent collaborating with young people from Army Welfare Services and @kimtilbrook6 to create a brilliant installation piece for Boomtown Festival!

This year our project focus was lichen. Fungi and Lichens grow better when they work together in a mycelium network, and so does art. Building on last year's project, The Dandelion Collective worked with four other Army Welfare Services youth groups and two artists, @abigailsmithstudio and @zoegibbons_art to bring their creative vision to life.

As a group, The Dandelion Collective explored themes of community building and climate awareness through art, creating a (literally) glowing window installation for the Botanica district. Using textiles, large scale model making, and website design, these young people explored how nature can teach us to slow down, grow stronger, and reconnect with each other.

Did you see our window at Boomtown? Let us know in the comments.

We're excited to announce that we'll be working alongside @boomtownfairofficial and the Army Welfare Service again at this year's Boomtown Festival!

This video from last year's project shows the process of how young changemakers in Rushmoor created three immersive window installations in Boomtown's Copperwood district.

The windows represent a Three Act Play based on a fictional movie, Massacre by Moonlight, complete with characters, scandals, stunts gone wrong, and a vampire to boot.

With thanks to the Army Welfare Service, Boomtown, and Red Dog Production House for their brilliant photography and videography throughout the project.

From Light to Colour 🌟

Back in the autumn, we celebrated our second Diwali in Rushmoor, in partnership with @nutkhut.uk and @rushmoorcouncil. Together we made lanterns, explored the meaning of Diwali in the community, and took part in a fantastic parade filled with music, dancing, and creativity.

As we look ahead to Holi, the festival of colours, tomorrow on 4 March, we're excited to once again celebrate joy, renewal, and the arrival of spring.

Diwali and Holi may be months apart, but they share the same spirit: community, colour, creativity, and hope.

Here's a look back at the vibrant Diwali celebrations we captured in Rushmoor...

With thanks to @reddogproductionhouse for capturing the joy and vibrance of the project. by @rushmoor.artswork

Artswork is a safe place for everyone.

We know that right now, there are people, including young people who aren’t sure where will be safe for them.

We want to reassure every person – including trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming and intersex young people - that attends one of our events or applies for our programmes, that we will do everything in our power to make sure they will feel safe, included, valued and welcome.

We believe that all young people are valid and deserve to live in an empathetic world: this always has been and always will be our position.

Creativity and culture are better when everyone is included, and we are committed to challenging all discrimination in the work that we do.

We will continue to champion this message and make sure everyone always feels safe and respected when working with us. by @rushmoor.artswork

Meet our Placemaking Creative Producer for the New Forest and Rushmoor, Finn Cresswell:

“I’m excited to be working alongside young people in the New Forest and Rushmoor to make meaningful positive change in their communities that includes, represents and empowers them.

Showcasing how powerful and engaging creative youth-led practice is has been a joy so far, and the variety of projects that have been happening are inspirational. Supporting young people in leading creative projects and producing work that truly represents their local communities, while also exploring their sense of identity, access to spaces, and communication of needs, is fantastic.

There is so much out there, so be brave and explore how you can use creative skills and your voice to make things that much brighter.”

Same us, whole new look.

We’ve been working away behind the scenes to bring you a completely new website and brand which reflects who we are now as a charity and where we’re going. We’re thrilled to finally
be able to share this with you.

A lot has changed for us in the past couple of years and we wanted our website and brand to reflect this shift in our work.

We now work directly with young people,
empowering them to lead change through creativity – for themselves, their communities and the world.

You’ll see our new website and brand is fun, playful and creative but accessible to everyone who wants and needs to use it. We always loved our logo, and you’ll see it’s not too different to what it once was, just a little bit simpler.

A huge thank you to KIND @madebykind for working with us on this project and making this all come to life.

We love our new look, and we hope you do too.

Let us know what you think in the comments. Our new logo in the top left which reads ‘artswork’ with a big circle in the middle and small ones around the side. The words ‘Creativity for Change’ are written below. by @rushmoor.artswork

“My life is that of chance and change.” – Mia, Youth Voice Ambassador, Aldershot Garrison

It’s National Storytelling Week!

This week we worked with service children who are Aldershot Garrison's Youth Voice Ambassadors. We explored how stories can shape our identities, and how storytelling can be used to share lived experiences.

We looked at the responses other service children had to a series of questions that the ambassadors had created in a previous session. These questions focussed on:
- Feelings of belonging
- How to increase understanding from others about what life is like as a service child
- How young people can create stories that represent and express their identity and hopes for the future

They also used their written storytelling skills to delve into important and thought-provoking themes such as feelings of alienation when moving between communities:

“It can be lonely having to move and constantly reform friendships. Especially if you are seen as outside an already existing community. Having spaces to be a young person and hang out safely has helped me fit into new areas when I've had to move.”

We’re excited to see how the impactful stories they have created will feed into an upcoming youth-led project that will be announced soon!
