Rush has always had a special place in Jackie Bollinger’s heart. The Oak Park local was a patient here and was inspired by the care and treatment she received.

Bollinger is studying biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience at the @uofmichigan. This summer, she worked with Rush’s Arka Mallela, MD, MS, assistant professor, Department of Neurological Surgery, through the Summer Scholars Program in the Division of Translational Science at @rushumedicalcollege.

“Getting to come back and join these teams that I’m hoping to someday be a part of — it’s important to me,” Bollinger says.

@rushumedicalcollege M1s received their white coats and recited the Hippocratic Oath at Saturday’s #WhiteCoatCeremony. Surrounded by family and friends, they celebrated one of the first milestones in their medical careers.

“This white coat is the next step in accomplishing my dreams, which is to leave the world a better place than when I came into it,” Kylie Finkelstein says. “I will be a very happy person if I can even help just one person.”

It was a call he never expected to receive.

Nearly 10 years ago, @rushumedicalcollege student Seth Adler swabbed the inside of his mouth and joined the @giftoflifemarrowregistry to help save someone’s life. Just last year, he found out he was a match for a 78-year-old male with leukemia.

Adler is sharing his experience and calling on others to be someone’s match.

“I do want to emphasize how important stem cells [or bone marrow] are. If someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, and chemotherapy or surgery fails, this donation is their last treatment option,” he says.

@rushumedicalcollege recently held its orientation for incoming M1 students. They came together to meet their peers, connect with faculty and leadership and learn more about Rush 9-1-1 — a group dedicated to teaching lifesaving skills.

We're so excited you're here, and we can't wait to watch you grow into compassionate and skilled healthcare professionals. Full circle moment: At 11 a.m., fourth-year @rushumedicalcollege students found out where they matched for residency training. At the same location they donned their white coats for the first time, they reached a new milestone and opened envelopes that held the answer to the next chapter of their story.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. And a warm welcome to all those who matched in a residency program at Rush.

Rush University’s Warm Threads Initiative is targeting unmet needs and teaching students how to crochet for vulnerable populations. As they give back to the community, the students are also able to unwind.

“There’s a lot less thinking involved, and you kind of just get into a flow state,” JP Arios, @rushumedicalcollege student, says. “People recognize that when you’re in a flow state, you’re more relaxed. Especially with medical school, you’re constantly thinking of so many different things — what’s coming up, what you have to do and what you didn’t do.”

Applications for this summer's Rush Medical College David Jones Peck, MD Pre-Medical Education Program (DJP PEP) are now open! The DJP PEP is an in-person program scheduled for June 15-July 24. The goal of this program is to prepare aspiring, motivated pre-med students with the means to strengthen their ability and readiness to become competitive and successful applicants to medical school.

This program includes academic enrichment in the basic sciences with a focus on health disparities and illnesses prevalent in underserved communities; AMCAS application and interview preparation; community service experiences; medical school financial planning; peer and faculty mentorship; and more.

The DJP PEP is designed to support students who have experienced social, economic, and/or educational hardships in their journey to medical education, come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and/or who represent groups that are known to be underrepresented in medicine.

There is no tuition fee or application costs to participate in the program. Living stipends and housing are included. Program participants will be responsible for any travel and personal expense(s) incurred while attending the program. Participants are responsible for their own health insurance.

Going to the ER can be stressful for anyone, and that's especially true for victims of sexual assault. That's why Rush's emergency department and Rush Medical College students collaborated on the dignity cart. It's stocked with gender-affirming and personal care items, as well as comfortable clothes donated by @17thandgranville, patients can take what they need before leaving the ER. by @rushumedicalcollege
