Our new bookshop opens Saturday, and we know what you’re wondering: will there be books? 🤔

The answer is yes. Quite a few. Fiction, nonfiction, kids’ books.

But there are also a few things you might not expect, sooOOooo without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at a few other things you’ll find there:

📀 Book & record pairings: suggested combos, discounted when you buy them together.
🧺 Vintage treasures for sale: picked out for the shop by the two sisters behind @littlehouse.lane
🎨 Local art for sale: work by Margaret Hantiuk, in collaboration with @curatedhousehome .
💌 Penpal network: we’re now a Letter Keeper for @thesundayletterproject , so you can learn how to join their worldwide pen-pal project when you visit.

+ We’re giving our first 25 customers a coupon for a free seasonal latte from @ruthanddean across the road!! ☕️

@twiceasniceconsignmentoakbay will have Fall festivities next door, too. 🍂 There’s so much to explore in this neighbourhood, with so many great small businesses – it’s one of the things we love about being here.

The countdown is officially on! Our bookshop opens THIS SATURDAY. 📚🎉

We’re restocking after yesterday’s Reading Party at @craigdarrochcastle, but otherwise the opening-week to-do list is looking… suspiciously reasonable?? Have we actually thought of everything (that would be very out of character)?!?! 🤷🏻‍♀️Come see for yourselves if we have on Saturday.

We’ll be at 2534 Estevan Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first 25 customers get a free small seasonal latte from @ruthanddean across the road, and our neighbours @twiceasniceconsignmentoakbay will have Fall festivities next door too. 🍂

Still weddings. And still loving them. This cake was a vanilla sponge, layered with raspberry compote and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. Though the cake was only 10” in diameter it fed 50 ppl because it was so tall! #weddings #yyjweddings #yyjweddingcake by @ruthanddean

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. (Though we’ve used one a lot lately🔨👷) WE’RE OPENING OUR FIRST BOOKSHOP!

Come see us Saturday, October 3, from 10 am–4 pm at 2534 Estevan Avenue. To celebrate our first day, the first 25 customers will get a coupon for a free seasonal latte from our incredible neighbours, @ruthanddean, just across the road. We’ll have a few other goodies, and our other lovely neighbours, @twiceasniceconsignmentoakbay will also have some Fall festivities happening next door the same day, so lots to check out in Estevan Village that weekend. 🍂📚☕️

FYI: for our first month, we’re planning to be open primarily on weekends. There are a million things we want to keep improving as we go, but we’re so excited to just get started. The name “Meant Well” is about trying your best, getting started, and learning along the way…so we’re trying our best to fight our perfectionist tendencies and lean into that!!

THANK YOU to everyone who’s popped their head in to tell us they’re excited, or helped give their thoughts on furniture placement 😅. Our neighbours and this community have been SOOOO welcoming. We already love it here and want to spend all our time in the shop - and think this is easily of the most underrated neighbourhoods in Victoria. 💕

And a huge thank you to @sol.signs for the sign out front that made it all come together and make it look like a real shop, @ashleylovecreatives for sharing her talent and kindness - photographing the shop, and the friends and family who rolled up their sleeves to help us get ready.

We’ll share more about what you can expect to see in the shop over the next couple weeks (including more on a collaboration with @littlehouse.lane 👀)… But first, we have a Reading Party this weekend at @craigdarrochcastle with @simonsaysvic to get to (where we’ll also share more fun ways to get involved with us through the year)!! It’s a big couple weeks for us.

We hand laminate our dough and have been for a long time. It’s one of our most challenging tasks in the bakery, so we waffled for a long time about whether or not to add to the load.
