The very talented Metro vipers (Double bass player and drummer) playing at the best listening venue in Broadstairs, the Magnet. The best, most chilled way to spend a Sunday afternoon #metrovipers #thanksforthemusic by @ruthrandom2

Back in my happy place at the lovely Magnet, drawing live with the fabulous Cushti Rye, such pure musicianship and original arrangements. #thanksforthemusic by @ruthrandom2

Nature Table II - The Conker Leaf - watercolour, gouache, crayon. This is my one-in-a-million almost dead leaf. I am always drawn to a particular thing on my walks - but have no idea why... today found this beauty and a perfect unopened conker - cant wait to get started. This is probably pure procrastination to avoid starting some real work, but I am so enjoying myself. #naturetable #autumnvibes #watercolour by @ruthrandom2

This time of year I sometimes revert to nature table painting - captivated by nature's abundance, colour and nostalgia (reminds me of catapaults) This one is called, The Lichen Twig, started as a faithful watercolour but lapsed into gouache and polychrome crayons. #autumnvibe by @ruthrandom2

Recollections may vary III - or Macy On Cloud Nine - Gouache on paper. Inspired by the gorgeous Mourne Mountins - which I can currently see from the window - but so mysterious and other-worldly in their ethereal loveliness - too scary to paint, so I came at it sideways with another picture of Macy, but after several hours was disappointed with the result and was thinking about abandoning it.
And then last night - went to watch eldest daughter cantering around and jumping on horse (brave girl) and while watching from the gallery, was joined by a small (wet) brown dog, exactly like Macy, who i had been painting for hours. She pestered to get on my lap and completely trusting of me, nestled down for a sleep. I felt moved and filled with an uncanny sense of dejavu, vowed to finish the painting. Thank you little brown dog for giving me a sign... by @ruthrandom2

This painting is called, 'Recollections May Vary.' Queen Elizabeth II - It is about remembering, and how the brain can overlap, reframe recontextualise and even steal. This recent foray into vintage photographs keeps me fascinated by how we interpret and remember. And two people winessing the same event can have their own unique spin. So this painting (stepping away from straight forward copy) is a deliberate attempt at cultural and aesthetic disonance. And like a kaleidascope, the pieces will fall where they want creating new, sometimes jarring experience. And Macy is such a lovely subject to play with.
