At what age did running become your sanctuary—the place where you found strength, clarity, and purpose?

For me, it started after I left the xc/track team from university and graduated. I remember in my last year, my coach called me in for a meeting and said I never improved, and have been a disappointment since I got there. Tears streamed down my face and I ran out of that office in tears. On my last race, I was part of the university’s 4x800m team at the national championship. He came to me and said he didn’t mean what he said and said it to light a fire under my ass. We ended up winning bronze. For months before that race, I hated him. He created an environment where running wasn’t enjoyable anymore and the coach, the person you just wanted to be the best for, said you weren’t good enough. Almost 7 years later, I still think of these moments and how much it still affects me. I’m now in an environment where I CHOOSE when I run and I celebrate my races no matter the outcome. Positivity to me is everything and I try to surround myself with these kind of people. Running is a place that brings clarity to my life and if I’m running, I’m the best version of myself. I’m grateful running has been there for me in all my successes and failures, and in a sense, running and I have really grown up together.

With every failure, success and vulnerability shared, having that friend who sees you and empowers you, is hard to find these days 🙇🏻‍♀️ w/ @its_cdolphfit

Okay, I’m going to be real here. When you have to suppress yourself around people, this can be really DRAINING. It’s tough when you feel like you can’t be your authentic self because the people around you don’t genuinely care or understand you. I often felt isolated because of this. But I always felt that it was better to be alone than put myself in situations where these interactions were depleting. I tried to step away from these friendships as I often kept things surface level to avoid judgement or indifference. I realized it’s important to recognize these dynamics and prioritize surrounding yourself with those who uplift and support you. The energy I feel when I surround myself with people like @its_cdolphfit, it’s contagious, extremely supportive and uplifting. When I left our runs together, I felt incredibly empowered. I felt valued and understood. Allowing myself to be my true self without fear of judgment. When you take risks and try something new. Or go against normal ideals of what life has to be. I noticed that some people view this in a different light. Instead of being excited and supportive, they ask Why? or don’t ask anything at all. Taking risks in life can be scary and having that support system is crucial. Leaving negative friendships can be liberating, allowing you to focus on relationships that uplift and inspire growth.

Thank you for reading this incredibly vulnerable post. If you are doing something new and taking a risk, I see you 💛 keep going. by @ruuxolo

Isn’t crazy that everything you want is in the work you’re avoiding?

I can easily stay comfortable my whole life. But why on earth would I want to stay comfortable? Everything I want is on the other side of cringe, consistency and doing HARD things. Sometimes, those hard things are just habits that need to be formed or trying new things even though it’s scary. I think that’s why all runners think the same. The need to want to do more and be more. Because our limits are just a figment of our mental capacity. Not just in running but in life. We know our limits and push past them and that’s what keeps us going back for more. Our limits are ever changing and the only person standing in the way is not your friends, not your family and certainly not strangers, it’s YOU.

It was raining, the track was flooded, I was sore, undertrained, and questioning my life choices.

As a millennial myself, I can’t tell you how many people I meet who are so comfortable with where they are and what they do.

If it’s a career, I always ask, “Are you happy?”

Most of the time, the answer is no. I always feel like the saddest realization is working a job you hate to retire and then being too tired to do all the things you were waiting to do.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is this:
choose discomfort.

Start with something small. Train for a race you have no business doing. Learn a new skill and switch industries. Be consistent for once in your life. Run when you’re tired, when it’s hard. Find a new job that awakens something in you. Sometimes hard is consistency. Sometimes hard is trying something new. Sometimes hard is realizing, yeah I don’t like my job or I need to change my environment. I like doing hard things because it reminds me “Yeah, I can and will do hard things”.

I feel most alive when I’m pushing myself. Doing something scary. Trying something new. Taking risks that force me to grow.

That’s where I’ve found the most happiness.
On the other side of being uncomfortable.

So for the rest of 2026, I challenge you:

Be uncomfortable.Be bold enough to become the most authentic version of yourself 💃

Because honestly… why can’t you? Do you know who YOU are??

Why can’t you change your life? Why can’t you try something new?Why can’t you take the risk, start over, speak up, chase the dream, or become the person you know you’re capable of being?

You’re allowed to want more for yourself.

Most growth doesn’t happen in comfort. It happens when you choose yourself anyway 🤍

You can do hard things.
