3 days in my birthplace Saigon. The heartbeat of Việtnam
Each time I’m back I’m more and more comfortable and more connected to my hometown. It’s growing and changing so much.
But most of all it’s connecting with my aunts/ uncles/ cousins/ nieces and nephews. I’ll always wonder what my life would’ve been if my family never escaped in 1980. I have a wonderful life in the US, but I’ve never had the joy of growing up in the warm embrace of this extended family.
I’m so thankful that since I started coming back in 2020 after 40 years of being gone my aunts and uncles have treated me like the nephew that just left for a short trip and came home, and my cousins all treat me like the big brother that they knew all their lives even though I’ve only recently been back frequently. Love u guys so much. And so exciting that we have 2 upcoming weddings to grow our large family. ♥️♥️♥️ taken in Saigon, Vietnam by @ryanbichtran

First leg of our Hà Giang trip. We’ve never been to this northern most border of VN. Prior to recent years its bern a rugged area with poor roads that’s hard to get to It’s a Gorgeous Mountainous area but makes you appreciate how hard the people’s lives are to make a life here for the last thousands of years. The roads are windy and the driving is slow. Best to go slowly and take in the Gorgeous landscape along the way.

Our first stop, climbing Forbidden Mountain (Núi Cấm) for a beautiful view overlooking Hà Giang city. Also visiting the VN/ China border makes you appreciate how close China is and how much sacrifice the people here went through to maintain their independence after 1000 years of Chinese rule.
We also had our first contact with dân tộc (tribal people). VN is actually made up of 54 different ethnic groups. We visited a Tày village and saw how simple but honest their lives were. Growing rice, raising livestock and fish, visiting each other in a tight knot village. This def could’ve been my life in a diff lifetime. taken in Ha Giang by @ryanbichtran

Hello again Hanoi. Our 2nd trip to this historic capital of Vietnam. This city is a calmer more historic city than my Saigon, and thanks to our last trip now we have deep family ties here with my uncle’s Bác Kỳ’s family. Thank you to our niece Lan for showing us around like a local. The first few days were to catch up with family and take in the atmosphere of this amazing city. Every time we’re here now it’s a chance to catch up with Bác Binh, Hoang Lan Pham, Nhung HPham, Hồng Vân Trần Thị, Thuy Tran Thi Hong ❤️ taken in Hanoi, Vietnam by @ryanbichtran

Day 3-4 of spring break. Took the kids to the Sphere. Pretty awesome if u haven’t seen it. Took down the Wynn buffet. Pretty sure they ran low on the shrimp/ crab legs/ lobster claws after we were done with them 😂. Last meal in Vegas was Phở. After 4 days of American food Phở tasted amazing 😂 by @ryanbichtran

Our 22nd Valentines Day together (yes we celebrate it early to avoid the crowds). I had a first date w Amy Bui 1/1/2003 and we never looked back. Love you and the family and life we have together. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m beyond proud of my cousin Chi Dao for accomplishing everything he’s done in the education world in VN. This latest Eschool is a testament to his hard work, creativity, and entrepreneurship. His international school is on par with any western private school in the US, with first class amenities and teachers. These students are very fortunate to go here. One day I need to put my kids here Chi Dao. Thanks for showing us around and I’m so proud of you cousin ❤️❤️❤️he built taken in Eschool - A Boutique Village School by @ryanbichtran

Cruising Ha Long Bay on the Indochine cruise ship. One of the highlights of our trip. Ha Long Bay is not to missed, one the UNESCO World Heritage sites. We highly recommend tha cruise line. Excellent room/ first class service and rooms. And the views of course cannot be beat. We swam/ kayaked/ explored caves. Can’t miss site in VN taken in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam by @ryanbichtran
