A film photography dream of mine came true…

In a university class around 8 years ago we briefly looked at Richard Mosse’s legendary project 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢, which documented the ongoing war in the DRC on colour infrared film. I remember being quite moved by the images but at the time never took note or understood the intricacies and technical nature of shooting such a film stock.

Fast forward a few years (now acutely aware of the legend, rarity and price of ‘Aerochrome’ film), I was lucky enough to stumble across a handful of rolls of the 35mm version on marketplace. I snapped them up for a very reasonable price not knowing the true condition of the film (likely 20+ years expired and not freezer stored).

After tonnes of research and some advice from others, I felt comfortable shooting a test roll on a recent trip to Queensland. I shot a variety of different scenes, bracketed shots, and took notes. I’m beyond happy I got any results at all let alone some decent ones. This image is definitely the pick of the bunch! The abundance of infrared light bouncing off the foliage in this scene really shows off the vivid pink/red tones that make this film special. Keen to share more images from the rest of the roll soon!

Beach, beers, birds & bush (and rainbows). 🌈

Took me a while to get through a couple of rolls, but stoked to have some ACTUALLY new (already a year old) colour film to the market. It’s got its quirks but at the price with results like this… I’m a fan!
