20 HOURS TO GO: TODD SICKAFOOSE

@todd_sickafoose is a legend for a reason. I knew Todd would be the perfect person to mix what The Willamette Week calls “dense, maximalist music”, and boy did he DELIVER. I could write an essay about how incredible it was to work with Todd and see him in his element.

Shadow Work would not be the album it is without Todd’s mixing wizardry, producer mentality and grace, and even his electric bass on Minotaur and Chariot. Another quote from Daniel Bromfield with The Willamette Week is apropos:

“There’s a lot going on in any given song, but they never feel overstuffed or overwhelming.”

That’s Todd’s magic right there. ✨

Lastly, I want to thank Todd for buoying me through dismantling Minotaur. That was scary, but we got through it and made it the song it needed to be! At the end of the last mixing session Todd said, “We almost broke that song. But we didn’t!” 😂

Shadow Work is out now on @portlandjazzcomposers records!

Please pitch in - TIME IS RUNNING OUT - and support this community of musicians and artists that contributed to Shadow Work!

Thanks to former Giant, Mariner, and UP Pilot, Tom Lampkin, we got some amazing seats at the Giants/Mariners game today. It was my two nephew's first big league game! And Sawyer got a ball thrown to him by J.P. Crawford. I probably went to 1000 MLB games before I got my first ball and this lucky duck gets one on his first game?

Side note: I remember Tom Lampkin as a Giant because his walk-up song at Candlestick was Alice in Chains "The Roster" by @ryanmeaghermusic

Taking over for George Colligan to host the Tuesday jam sessions at Jo Bar this summer. First and third Tuesdays of each month. I'm hoping to mix up the scenes a little bit. Portland jazz has been feeling a little siloed lately. I hope you come out and play with some people you have played with before, but also new people.
